The star-studded lineup was announced Thursday at a news conference at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Performances will include Lil Wayne and GloRilla on Saturday; and Camila Cabello, Myles Smith and Knox on Sunday. On game day, the Allstate Championship Tailgate, taking place just outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the Home Depot Backyard, will feature country acts on the Capital One Music Stage, including global superstar Kane Brown and iHeartCountry “On The Verge” artist Ashley Cooke. The concerts are just two of the festivities visiting fans can enjoy in the days leading up to the big game. The fan experience for both ticket holders and the general public has been a focus for event planners. All weekend long, an estimated 100,000 people from across the country are expected to attend fan events preceding kickoff. “It will be an opportunity for fans of all ages to come together to sample what college football is all about, and you don’t have to have a ticket to the game to be a part of it,” said Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP in a press release. “We’ve worked closely with the Atlanta Football Host Committee to develop fan-friendly events that thousands will enjoy come January.” On Saturday, Jan. 18, Playoff Fan Central will open at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. The free, family-friendly experience will include games, clinics, pep rallies, special guest appearances, autograph signings and exhibits celebrating college football and its history. That day, fans can also attend Media Day, presented by Great Clips, which will feature one-hour sessions with student-athletes and coaches from each of the College Football Playoff national championship participating teams. ESPN and social media giants X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok will be taping live broadcasts from the event. On Sunday, Jan. 19, the Trophy Trot, both a 5K and 10K race, will wind its way through the streets of downtown Atlanta. Each Trophy Trot participant will receive a T-shirt and finisher’s medal. Participants can register at atlantatrackclub.org . On Sunday evening, the Georgia Aquarium will host the Taste of the Championship dining event, which offers attendees the opportunity to indulge in food and drink prepared by local Atlanta chefs. This premium experience serves as an elevated exploration of local cuisine on the eve of the national championship. Tickets to the Taste of the Championship event are available on etix.com . Atlanta is the first city ever to repeat as host for the CFP national championship. The playoff was previously held in Atlanta in 2018. “We are honored to be the first city to repeat as host for the CFP national championship and look forward to welcoming college football fans from around the country in January,” said Dan Corso, president of the Atlanta Sports Council and Atlanta Football Host Committee. “This event gives us another opportunity to showcase our incredible city.” The College Football Playoff is the event that crowns the national champion in college football. The quarterfinals and semifinals rotate annually among six bowl games — the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential and the Allstate Sugar Bowl. This year’s quarterfinals will take place on Dec. 31, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025, while the semifinals will be Jan. 9-10, 2025. The CFP national championship will be Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. For additional information on the College Football Playoff, visit CollegeFootballPlayoff.com . WASHINGTON - Donald Trump threatened the United States’s closest neighbours with big tariffs this week, in a move that has reminded many of the unpredictable tactics the president-elect deployed during his first tenure in the White House. Trump said Monday he would use an executive order to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all goods coming from Canada and Mexico until the two countries stop drugs and migrants from illegally crossing the U.S. border. The announcement, made on Truth Social, brought swift responses from officials and industry in both countries who are bracing for chaos during Trump’s second tenure. He has long used the threat of import taxes to pressure other countries to do his bidding, saying this summer that “the most beautiful word in the dictionary is ‘tariff.’” It’s unlikely the move would violate the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, which was negotiated during the first Trump administration. Laura Dawson, an expert on Canada-U. S. relations and the executive director of the Future Borders Coalition, said the president can impose tariffs under his national security powers. This type of duty has a time limit and can only be made permanent through Congressional approval, but for Trump, national security powers are like a “get out of jail free card,” Dawson said. “This is exactly what happened in the last Trump administration,” Dawson said. “Everyone said, ‘Well, that is ridiculous. Canada is the U.S.‘s best security partner. What do you mean our steel and aluminum imports are somehow a source of insecurity?’” But within the global trade system, she said, no country challenges another’s right to define their own national security imperatives. Trump’s first administration demonstrated how vulnerable Canada is to America’s whims when the former president scrapped the North American Free Trade Agreement. The U.S. is Canada’s closest neighbour and largest trading partner. More than 77 per cent of Canadian exports go to the U.S. Negotiation of CUSMA, commonly dubbed “the new NAFTA,” was a key test for Ottawa following Trump’s first victory. The trilateral agreement is up for review in 2026 and experts suspect this week’s tariff announcement is a negotiating tactic. Scott Bessent, Trump’s pick for treasury secretary, said in a recent op-ed that tariffs are “a useful tool for achieving the president’s foreign policy objectives.” “Whether it is getting allies to spend more on their own defence, opening foreign markets to U.S. exports, securing co-operation on ending illegal immigration and interdicting fentanyl trafficking, or deterring military aggression, tariffs can play a central role.” During the initial CUSMA negotiations in 2018, Trump floated the idea of a 25 per cent tariff on the Canadian auto sector — something that would have been crippling for the industry on both sides of the border. It was never implemented. At the time, he did use his national security powers to impose a 25 per cent tariff on steel and 10 per cent tariff on aluminum imports, casting fear of an all-out trade war that would threaten the global economy. The day after announcing those levies, Trump posted on social media “trade wars are good, and easy to win.” Former U.S. trade representative Robert Lighthizer recounted in his book that the duties sent an “unmistakable signal that business as usual was over.” “The Trump administration was willing to ruffle diplomatic feathers to advance its trade agenda.” It led to a legendary clash between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Trump at the G7 in Quebec. Trudeau said Canada would impose retaliatory measures, saying the argument that tariffs on steel and aluminum were a matter of national security was “kind of insulting.” Trump took to social media, where, in a flurry of posts he called Trudeau “very dishonest and weak.” Canada and other countries brought their own duties against the U.S. in response. They targeted products for political, rather than economic, reasons. Canada hit yogurt with a 10 per cent duty. Most of the product impacted came from one plant in Wisconsin, the home state of then-Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan. The European Union, Mexico and Canada all targeted U.S. whiskey products with tariffs, in a clear signal to then Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his home state of Kentucky’s bourbon industry. Ultimately, Canada and Mexico were able to negotiate exemptions. Carlo Dade, the director of trade and trade infrastructure at the Canada West Foundation, said Trump is returning to the White House with more experience and a plan. But he suspects Americans will not like the blow to their bank accounts. Trump’s new across-the-board tariff strategy would not only disrupt global supply chains, it would also cause a major shakeup to the American economy. It’s unclear if Trump will go through with them, or for how long, after campaigning on making life more affordable and increasing the energy market. “I think it will be short-term,” Dade said. “The U.S. can only inflict damage on itself for so long.” This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 26, 2024. — With files from The Associated PressSyrian rebels have declared victory in a vital city on their way to taking the capital, with reports indicating that anti-Bashar al-Assad forces are progressing through the Damascus suburbs. Timour Azhari, the Iraq Bureau Chief at Reuters, posted video to social media platform X showing "large celebrations in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli after rebels take Homs," the third-largest city in Syria. Homs also serves as a vital hub that connects the country's north and south through the capital. "Syria rebels announce 'total liberation' of Homs," Azhari wrote in another post. The advance follows reports that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country – reports that the Syrian government completely rejected earlier on Saturday. Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani called the victory a "historic moment" and called on his fighters not to harm "those who drop their arms," according to the BBC . The BBC also reported that rebels have also targeted the Saydnaya prison, a notorious detention center. This is a developing news story and will be updated with more information. The unit sold some of the old, legacy brands such as anti-cholesterol brand Crestor, clot buster Brilinta and Forxiga, one of the best prescribed brands for the treatment of diabetes. Along with a few other brands, the annual sales from the biopharma unit were around ₹400 crore, according to an industry source. However, the loss of patent exclusivity of these brands in India resulted in a deluge of generic drugs in the market. "When dapagliflozin (Forxiga) lost its patent rights four years ago, at least 250 generic substitutes came in. It gets tough for MNCs to compete on pricing," the source said. However, AstraZeneca's ambitions for India remain. A significant traction is seen in its new wave of patented drugs like Tagrisso for lung cancer, Koselugo for a rare genetic disorder, Breztri (drug to treat COPD) and Enhertu used in the treatment of breast and gastric cancer. In that direction, AstraZeneca said in the statement, "Our aspiration to be pioneers in science has increased our focus on specialist disease areas where we can make the most meaningful difference in helping people with cancer, other chronic and rare diseases." Over the last few years, AstraZeneca has seen a series of job cuts in its core India operations, while it has continued to invest and ramped up capacity at its global capability centres at Bengaluru and Chennai to support research and innovation efforts. One of the key benefits of a laptop is its everyday practicality. For road warriors, a laptop lets you take on the world wherever you are; for others, tethering your laptop to your desktop can be a great way to enhance your productivity or even your gaming experience. But what if you mainly use your laptop at home, it's pretty much always connected to an external monitor, and you don't really need the laptop screen? In that case, running your laptop in clamshell mode (i.e., with the screen closed) is a fantastic option. You'll get to enjoy the larger display of a monitor and have better ergonomics to boot. A large external monitor can make a significant difference over a laptop display. Thiago Trevisan / IDG In this article, I'll explain how to properly run your laptop while closed, the bevy of extra benefits that make it worth doing, plus a few caveats and best practices to keep in mind for best results. What you'll need to run a closed laptop As it turns out, you're going to need a few extra accessories in order to properly run your laptop with its screen closed. After all, when it's closed, you lose access to its built-in keyboard, trackpad, and display, so you'll have to forego all of them for external replacements. You'll need a separate keyboard and mouse with your external monitor because you won't be able to use your laptop's keyboard while it's closed. Thiago Trevisan / IDG Yes, you're going to need a separate keyboard (wired or wireless) and a mouse (wired or wireless). They'll connect to your laptop either via USB cables, Wi-Fi dongles, or Bluetooth pairing. You're also going to need an external monitor, which will connect via HDMI cable, DisplayPort cable, or USB-C/Thunderbolt cable depending on your laptop model and specs. You'll need a monitor that's compatible with whatever connection you end up... Thiago Trevisan

Sherwin-Williams SVP sells $2.05 million in stock at $398.06 per shareBOSTON (AP) — UConn coach Jim Mora agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2028, the school announced Saturday right before kickoff of the Huskies’ Fenway Bowl game against North Carolina. Mora will earn $10.01 million plus incentives over the next four years, the school said before UConn beat the Tar Heels 27-14 to reach nine wins for the first time since 2007. After the game, Mora thanked the administration for it support but said, pointing to his players, “It’s about these guys and what they did today.” The Huskies were playing in their second bowl game in three seasons under Mora, bouncing back from last year’s 3-9 record to post their first winning season since Randy Edsall took them to the Fiesta Bowl in 2010. UConn has reached nine wins only two other times since joining what is now the Bowl Subdivision in 2000. “When I first got here, I talked about where we wanted this program to go,” Mora said in the statement that was released moments before kickoff. “We have shown great progress but we still have plenty of work to do.” The Huskies (9-4) posted their first winning season since 2010. An independent, UConn won all of its games against the non-Power Four conferences but, heading into the Fenway Bowl, had lost all of its games against major football programs. Mora said Friday that the next step was to start beating those teams as well. “Three years ago, I tasked Jim Mora with the challenge of leading our football team back to success and through his experience, energy and leadership he has done just that,” athletic director David Benedict said. “He has taken our program to post season bowl games twice and just guided our team to one of the best seasons in UConn football history, building a momentum to keep this program moving forward. I look forward to his leadership of our football team in the years ahead.” Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here .
