007 casino royale Recently, Chris Brown hopped online to share a cryptic video of himself, which has since earned big reactions from fans. While the video itself is simple enough, his choice of song is what followers are focused on the most. He included Kendrick Lamar 's new GNX track "tv off" featuring Lefty Gunplay , which quickly became a fan favorite following the surprise release of the album last month. " Drake about to hit the unfollow button when he wakes up," one Instagram user writes in his comments section. "Plesseeeeeeeee a remix with you would EATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT," someone else says. This isn't the first time fans have seen Breezy show love to Kendrick, however. Back in June, he was spotted at the club dancing to his hit Drake track " Not Like Us. " He's had some issues with the Toronto rapper in the past, but it's also possible he's just a Kendrick fan. The lawsuit was filed by Tykeiya Dore, who alleges that the duo stole the structure and melody of her song "I Got It" for their 2019 hit, "No Guidance." According to her, Drake's frequent collaborator Vinylz keeps tabs on the YouTube channel of Benji Filmz. Benji Filmz directed Tykeiya's music video. "Defendant Anderson Hernandez, professionally known as Vinylz," the lawsuit alleges. "Discovered and obtained access to Tykeiya’s song 'I Got It' and Cardi B ’s songs on Benji Filmz YouTube channel." Allegedly, Tykeiya's uncle Jesse Spruils had also previously provided a copy of the song to Nija Charles, the co-writer of " No Guidance. " Eventually, Spruils confronted Charles about the situation on social media but was allegedly blocked. In addition to Drake and Chris Brown, Tykeiya is suing YouTube and Google for alleged defamation, common law fraud, emotional distress, and more. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark raised that point before the sparsely attended title game between No. 12 Arizona State and 16th-ranked Iowa State. There were thousands of empty seats at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. Yormark says he remains committed to having a Big 12 title game. Besides the issues of fans, there have been suggestions that some leagues might be better off without title games as it relates to playoff hopes. Ashton Jeanty lets his play do the talking for CFP-bound Boise State BOISE, Idaho (AP) — After Ashton Jeanty streaked through the middle of UNLV’s defense on his way to a 75-yard touchdown run Friday night in the Mountain West Conference title game, he didn’t strike the Heisman pose. He didn’t even lobby for it after the game, instead letting his play do the talking in No. 10 Boise State's 21-7 victory over No. 19 UNLV 21-7. Jeanty added another 209 yards — his sixth game over 200 yards this season — to push his total to 2,497 — just 132 yards short of passing Barry Sanders’ FBS season rushing record. The Broncos earned a spot in the College Football Playoff with the victory. No. 24 Army wins AAC championship in first attempt as Daily runs for 4 TDs in 35-14 win over Tulane WEST POINT, N.Y. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K Dobbins is unlikely to play against the Atlanta Falcons this week because of a knee injury. Dobbins was hurt in the first half of the Chargers’ 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. He had six carries for 40 yards and three catches for 19 yards before leaving the game. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh declined to get into specifics of the injury Wednesday, other than confirming Dobbins is “working through something with his knee,” he said. Dobbins had been putting together a strong first season for the Chargers (7-4) after his past three years in Baltimore had been injury-riddled. He has 766 yards rushing and eight touchdowns through 11 games for Los Angeles, which had positioned Dobbins as a strong candidate for AP Comeback Player of the Year. Dobbins tore his Achilles tendon in the 2023 season opener for Baltimore. He also tore his ACL in 2021, and the effects of that injury lingered into the following season. Dobbins played in just 24 of a possible 67 regular-season games for the Ravens, who drafted him in the second round in 2020. “We feel horrible for him,” quarterback Justin Herbert said. “He’s such a tough, tough teammate, and the way he’s fought through so many injuries, we have no doubt he’s going to be back better than ever. And so it’s up to us. It’s our responsibility to hold it down while he’s gone.” The absence of Dobbins leaves Gus Edwards, Hassan Haskins and rookie Kimani Vidal as the Chargers’ current options at running back. Edwards missed four games because of a high ankle sprain and has 206 yards and one touchdown in seven appearances. Haskins has mostly been a special teams contributor, while Vidal has been inactive for seven games, including each of the past three. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

Hassan: JD(S) functionaries on Saturday criticised the Congress party's Jana Kalyana Samavesha, alleging that the event was organised solely to target JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda and his family. Rather than highlighting the government's achievements, Congress functionaries only targeted one family for political gins, a former minister from the seular party said a press conference. Former minister HK Kumaraswamy said that the government's achievements should have been discussed at a public welfare convention. He also criticised Congress leaders for failing to highlight their contributions to the state and the district. He demanded that the government release a list of their achievements. Kumaraswamy also announced plans to hold a convention in the district to strengthen his party. A final call on this will be taken after discussion with party leaders. MLA CN Balakrishna stated that the government has prevented legislators of any party, including Congress, from visiting villages by not providing any grants to them. "Congress organised the convention under the guise of public welfare, to secure the positions of the chief minister and the deputy CM," he said. Balakrishna said former minister and JD(S) functionary HD Revanna was responsible for the Hassan-Bengaluru four-lane highway, several colleges, bus stations, and a district court in Hassan. MLA HP Swaroop Prakash, city council president M Chandregowda, and JD(S) taluk president S Devegowda were present. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . The Golden State Warriors are spiraling, having lost five games in a row. Only a short time ago they were the very best team in the Western Conference, and now they sit 12-8 and in the Play-In Tournament picture for the second straight season. To kick off the season, Steve Kerr used a 12 or 13-man rotation, and the Warriors’ depth looked like the best weapon in the NBA, but the recent slump has players questioning that, including Stephen Curry. Curry aired his frustrations after a recent loss to the Phoenix Suns, saying that his teammates are all professionals and can be counted on to play a lesser role if needed. “Coach’s job is to make those tough decisions," Curry said on Sunday, as transcribed by Athlon’s Lance Roberson. "It’s our job to help him. If you’re not playing, don’t pout; don’t bring the locker room down. It doesn’t help anybody. Including yourself." In an effort to bring in more star power and have big-name players to rely on, the Warriors are expected to trade away some of their depth for an All-Star. However, if they chose to save on draft picks, they could instead flip expiring contracts to a rebuilding team, giving up flexibility in exchange for a win-now player. “The Warriors are expected to be active as buyers on the trade market utilizing $30+ million in expiring contracts,” wrote Forbes’ Evan Sidery on Twitter. “Many are wondering whether Golden State will put Jonathan Kuminga on the table in a potential deal for an All-Star level player after unsuccessful extension talks.” With Kuminga’s unrestricted free agency signing rights as trade bait, the Warriors could send him, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II to the Utah Jazz for John Collins. Collins is owed $26.5 million over each of the next two seasons, whereas the three outgoing players will all be free agents this summer. In an ideal world for the Jazz, they would take on picks in exchange for Collins, who is averaging 17.8 points on 40% shooting from deep this season to go with 8.7 rebounds. However, Kuminga is a promising young player that Utah can build around, and the mock trade would give them a ton of financial flexibility in the upcoming free agency. The Warriors lack size, and adding the 6-9 Collins while retaining Kevon Looney and all of their draft picks would be a massive win for the Warriors, giving Curry a viable second option in the frontcourt. PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron expressed “gratitude” Saturday to those who saved, helped and rebuilt Notre Dame Cathedral. “I stand before you ... to express the gratitude of the French nation,” Macron said at the reopening ceremony. “Tonight, the bells of Notre Dame are ringing again. And in a moment, the organ will awaken,” sending the “music of hope” to Parisians, France and the world. Macron spoke in front of 1,500 guests invited to celebrate the restoration of Paris’ 12th-century cathedral which was nearly destroyed by a fire in 2019. They included world leaders like President-elect Donald Trump , U.S. first lady Jill Biden, Britain’s Prince William and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below. PARIS (AP) — Howling winds couldn’t stop Notre Dame Cathedral ’s heart from beating again. With three resounding knocks on its doors by Paris Archbishop Laurent Ulrich, wielding a specially designed crosier carved from fire-scorched beams, the monument roared back to life Saturday evening. For the first time since a devastating blaze nearly destroyed it in 2019, the towering Gothic masterpiece reopened for worship, its rebirth marked by song, prayer, and awe beneath its soaring arches. The ceremony, initially planned to begin on the forecourt, was moved entirely inside due to unusually fierce December winds sweeping across the Île de la Cité, flanked by the River Seine. Yet the occasion lost none of its splendor. Inside the luminous nave, choirs sang psalms, and the cathedral’s mighty organ, silent for nearly five years, thundered to life in a triumphant interplay of melodies. The restoration, a spectacular achievement in just five years for a structure that took nearly two centuries to build, is seen as a moment of triumph for French President Emmanuel Macron, who championed the ambitious timeline — and a welcome respite from his domestic political woes . The evening’s celebration, attended by 1,500 dignitaries, including President-elect Donald Trump, Britain’s Prince William, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, underscored Notre Dame’s enduring role as both a spiritual and cultural beacon. Observers see the event as Macron's, and his intention to pivot it into a fully fledged diplomatic gathering, while highlighting France’s ability to unite on the global stage despite internal political crises. Inside, 42,000 square meters of stonework — an area equal to six soccer pitches — were meticulously cleaned, revealing luminous limestone and intricate carvings. Overhead, 2,000 oak beams, nicknamed “the forest,” were used to rebuild the spire and roof, restoring the cathedral’s iconic silhouette. The thunderous great organ, with 7,952 pipes ranging from pen-sized to torso-wide, resounded for the first time since the fire. Its newly renovated console, boasting five keyboards, 115 stops, and 30 foot pedals, was a marvel of restoration, reawakening a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s identity. Guests gradually filing into the cathedral for the evening reopening ceremonies were awestruck by the renovated interiors, many whipping out cellphones to capture the moment. “It’s a sense of perfection,” said François Le Page of the Notre Dame Foundation, which raised nearly half of the €900 million ($950 million) in donations for the restoration. He last visited in 2021, when the cathedral was cloaked in scaffolding. “It was somber,” he said. “It’s night and day.” The Rev. Andriy Morkvas, a Ukrainian pastor who leads the Volodymyr Le Grand church in Paris, reflected on his first visit to Notre Dame in over a decade. “I didn’t recognize it,” he said. “God is very powerful; He can change things.” He expressed hope that the cathedral’s revival could inspire peace in his homeland, drawing strength from the presence of Ukraine’s president. “I think that will have a big impact,” he said. “I hope Notre Dame and Mary will help us resolve this conflict.” The reopening of Notre Dame comes at a time of profound global unrest, with wars raging in Ukraine and the Middle East. For Catholics, Notre Dame’s rector said the cathedral “carries the enveloping presence of the Virgin Mary, a maternal and embracing presence.′′ “It is a magnificent symbol of unity,” Dumas said. “Notre Dame is not just a French monument—it is a magnificent sign of hope.” The international range of dignitaries coming to Paris underline the cathedral’s significance as a symbol of shared heritage and peace. Canadian visitor Noelle Alexandria, who had traveled to Paris for the reopening, was struck by the cathedral’s ability to inspire. “She’s been nearly ruined before, but she always comes back,” Alexandria said. “Not many of us could say the same after such tragedy, but Notre Dame can.” Guests entered through Notre Dame’s iconic western façade, whose arched portals adorned with biblical carvings were once a visual guide for medieval believers. Above the central Portal of the Last Judgment, the Archangel Michael is depicted weighing souls, as demons attempt to tip the scales. These stone figures, designed to inspire both awe and fear, set the stage for a ceremony steeped in history. Inside, the hum of hundreds of guests awaiting the service filled the cathedral with human sounds once more — a stark contrast to the construction din that echoed there for years. Tuners restoring the great organ often worked through the night to find the silence needed to perfect its 7,952 pipes, ranging from pen-sized to torso-wide. Notre Dame echoed to the sound of a sustained standing ovation after the showing of a short movie that documented the gargantuan rebuilding effort. Outside, the word “MERCI” — thank you — was projected against the cathedral’s iconic western facade. The movie showed the terrible wounds left by the inferno — the gaping holes torn into its vaulted ceilings and the burned roof. But that was followed by images of all types of artisans, many using traditional handicraft techniques, who collectively restored Notre Dame to look better now than ever. "We went from night to light," said one of the workers in the movie. The celebration is expected to give a much-needed boost to embattled Macron, whose prime minister was ousted this week , plunging the nation’s politics into more turmoil. The French president, who has called Notre Dame's reopening “a jolt of hope,” will address the gathering. He had hoped the occasion would briefly silence his critics and showcase France’s unity and resilience under his leadership. Macron's presidency now faces its gravest crisis after the government's collapse this week in a historic no-confidence vote that toppled Prime Minister Michel Barnier. The vote followed months of political gridlock after snap elections in June. Calls are now growing louder from opposition forces for Macron to resign. But he vowed Thursday to remain in office until the end of his term in 2027, and said he'll name a new prime minister within days. As France struggles with economic woes and social unrest, Notre Dame's rebirth celebrations form a stark contrast. Security will be high through the weekend, echoing measures taken during the Paris Olympics earlier this year. The Île de la Cité — the small island in the River Seine that is home to Notre Dame and the historic heart of Paris— is closed to tourists and non-residents. Police vans and barriers blocked cobblestoned streets in a large perimeter around the island, while soldiers in thick body armor and sniffer dogs patrolled embankments. A special security detail is following Trump. Public viewing areas along the Seine’s southern bank will accommodate 40,000 spectators, who can follow the celebrations on large screens. For many, Notre Dame’s rebirth is not just a French achievement but a global one — after the reopening, the cathedral is set to welcome 15 million visitors annually, up from 12 million before the fire. These days, you don’t need an Xbox to play Xbox games. The company’s gaming ecosystem is now cheaper than ever thanks to a Cyber Monday deal that’ll snag you an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and an Xbox controller for just $20 more than a single controller would normally cost on its own. The deal follows news from this June that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers would be able to stream cloud-supported games directly from supported USB dongles, and although the bundle comes with an Xbox Core Wireless Controller, most Bluetooth controllers will work just fine . So, theoretically, you could also snag the separate Fire TV Stick 4K Max deal (which almost cuts the price in half) if you already have a compatible game controller laying around. (Yes, even if it’s PlayStation branded.) Again, you’ll need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play, since there’s no way the Fire TV Stick can run an Xbox game without help from the subscription’s cloud streaming services, but the bundle with the controller does come with a free month of Game Pass Ultimate, which normally costs $20 a month. Click here for a full list of cloud supported games. Bundles are active for both pink and green controllers, with other options out of stock at time of writing. You can also opt for a regular Fire TV Stick 4K over a 4K Max for $5 less, although you’ll get a slightly slower processor, a slower wifi standard, and less storage. Alternatively, if all you need is an Xbox controller, there are deals on those too , but availability and pricing differs by color. Regardless, either Fire TV Stick 4K will support the Xbox app, making this one of the cheapest ways to get in on the current console generation right now—at least until those subscription fees start adding up.Anthony Albanese pressing hard for a majority at the next electioncasino free credit

Beyond Gabia's personal aspirations, the state of the Serie A standings remains a point of concern for many football enthusiasts. With fierce competition among top teams and unexpected upsets shaking up the rankings, no one seems completely satisfied with the current state of affairs.1. A hanging garbage bag holder that'll make you say, "Well, why didn't I think of that?" Just sweep any food scraps right in as you're cooking, and it won't crowd your counter space. Promising review: "I love the convenience of this product. It fits perfectly over my kitchen counter drawer and holds my vegetable waste. I was moving my large trash can over to my prep area each time I cooked. Now I just put this trash holder up and a recycle bag. So easy, so clean. I just bought a second one for a friend! " — Kindle Customer Get it from Amazon for $6.99 . 2. A splatter guard aptly named "Frywall" to keep the grease contained when you're grilling a burger or piece of salmon. It's got you covered — literally. It's made of BPA-free silicone that's heat-resistant up to 450 degrees. You can throw it in the dishwasher for cleaning and roll it up for compact storage. This size is designed to fit any 10-inch pan, but it also comes in a larger size and a smaller size . Promising review: "I bought the 10-inch to use with my cast iron skillet. It fit perfectly, was easy to wash and dry, and folded flat for easy storage in the rack with my pot lids. What a dream not to have to clean up those splatters, especially on the cooking grates which are, in my case, heavy and awkward to wash. No more avoiding recipes that call for a sear because I don’t want to deal with a mess. I bought one for my sister...we both don’t like having extra gadgets in the kitchen, but this is worth having. Also great for placing in the salad bowl before tossing...again, no mess. For me, the cooking screens are not worth it because as soon as you lift them to turn your food you get splattering. Getting some for X-mas stocking stuffers." — R. Feinberg Get it from Amazon for $21.95 (available in four colors). 3. A handy gadget for slicing a bunch of cherry tomatoes (or grapes or olives) at once. No more painstakingly slicing them one by one! Promising review: "Great product, I love cherry tomatoes in salad but it always takes time to cut them. Now it’s solved and I liked the slicer so much that I bought five for all my friends and relatives! Thanks to the people who designed it! So simple but so thoughtful." — alena Get it from Amazon for $15.95 . 4. A spill stopper so starchy foods (like pasta and potatoes — the best foods) don't boil over and create a giant mess you have to clean up after dinner...or the next day. This 11-inch spill stopper is made of silicone that's heat-resistant up to 400 degrees. It's also microwave- and dishwasher-safe. Promising review: "This little gadget is amazing — it really works! I've used it with boiling potatoes and pasta. It's so much nicer to be able to just wash this off instead of scraping the burned-on, starchy residue off the top of the stove. After I used it a few times, I bought a few more as gifts for family members, and they're all delighted with them, too. " — Busy Crafter Get it from Amazon for $12+ (available in three colors). 5. A clip-on strainer to prevent your food from falling into the sink — and without needing to haul out the full-size colander. This is especially handy if you're cooking for just one or two people. It's made of flexible silicone and designed to fit most pots and pans. Promising review: "Finally, a product that does what it's actually advertised to do. We were skeptical, but the first time out, it easily fit on the pot we were using. The clips are sturdy and we didn't lose one potato when we drained the pot. In fact, it worked so well, I bought four more and gave them to friends! " — Charla P. Get it from Amazon for $16.50 + (available in four colors). 6. Read our review of this multipurpose rack (#1 on the list). Promising review: "This is my second one for myself. I bought a total of four — two I gave as gifts. I have several water bottles and most times I wash more than one at a time. I also reuse silicone bags and sometimes plastic bags and dry those on this item. I dry drinking glasses, too. I have no complaints about this bottle dryer and highly recommend it. I read some reviews on Amazon that said theirs were not sturdy. This one is very sturdy. If you place your heavier bottles or glassware properly and opposite from each other, there should be no problem. I keep it on the counter near my kitchen sink, ready to use." — baby game Get it from Amazon for $16.97+ (available in two colors). 9. A set of stove counter gap covers to keep crumbs (and liquids) from falling into the unreachable abyss. A two-stage knife sharpener that'll restore dull blades to a razor sharp state. And when you're done, it'll fit nicely in the drawers. Read our full review of the KitchenIQ knife sharpener ! Promising review: "I never thought I'd be writing a review on a knife sharpener, but I love this damn thing. I'm woefully terrible at sharpening my blades with a traditional knife sharpener. I'm better off just buying a new knife set. I had a set of dull KitchenAid knives, and I used this on all of them, and it's completely renewed my set. I can finally chop and slice cleanly. It's such a simple gadget, but it really improved my knives and it is EASY. I gave one to my mom as a gift because I liked it so much. " — Victoria O. A manual food chopper for breaking up ground meats, mashing potatoes, or cutting up hard-boiled eggs. This food chopper is made of food-safe nylon and has no sharp edges. It's safe to use with nonstick cookware. Promising review: "I purchased this and liked it so much I purchased and gave away as Christmas gifts. Breaking up meat with a spatula or spoon is SO much harder than using the ChopStir. With ChopStir, you don't get wrist fatigue, and the meat is broken up into consistent sizes throughout the pan. I had a party guest ask me how I managed to break up the sausage in my stuffed mushrooms so well, and I showed her the ChopStir. She was one of the people I got this for for Christmas, and she's been loving it ever since!" — Sarah Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in three colors). 18. A space-saving under-cabinet jar opener reviewers say actually works — on bottles and jars of all sizes — and isn't gimmicky. Promising review: " I got this as a gift and have since gifted to several others. It's easy to install and is completely out of sight. It makes any lid simple to unscrew, even the tiny ones on nail polish! Seemed like one of those useless as-sold-on-TV gadgets, but it's not. I have one at home and one in my camp gear. I use them very, very, very often. Used on cast iron, blackened with soot, and soap rinsed to clean again. Cannot be better. Caution, it does snag, but who cares?" — Nora Allen Get a four-pack from Amazon for $8+ (available in three colors). 20. Promising review: "I don't usually write reviews but this is awesome! I never knew I needed this in my life so bad!! My hands start to hurt pretty bad after a few minutes of chopping veggies, not to mention it's time-consuming. This dicer has fixed all that!!!!! I love it and have sent one to a couple of family members. Highly recommend if you do any cooking that involves chopping!!" — Leah Get it from Amazon for $22.99+ . 21. It comes with a stainless steel stand so you don't have to worry about setting it down on the counter. Promising review: "Love it! It works a long time before the battery needs to be replaced. I use it every day, and it lasts 2+ months. Froths and mixes really well. Is portable and cleans easily! ( I always give them as gifts now — people don't know what they're missing. )" — Patricia Get it from Amazon for $7.58+ (available in 22 colors). 24. An adjustable baggy rack to hold storage bags open while you scoop food into them (which means less spillage on the counter and the floor). It folds down flat so it can fit into any kitchen gadget drawer. Promising review: "This kitchen 'tool' is the BEST thing ever! I have a large family and we use a lot of baggies for meal prep and leftovers. These bag racks have changed the game for me in the kitchen! What is even more disturbing is the alleged response of the police when the mother and daughter had initially reported the scam. According to reports, the authorities not only failed to take swift action to investigate the case but also mocked and belittled the victims for falling for the scam in the first place.Chelsea's attacking prowess has been a sight to behold this season, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount, and Kai Havertz causing havoc for opposition defenses. The fluidity, creativity, and clinical finishing of Chelsea's attackers have ensured that they are a force to be reckoned with in front of goal. However, as the old adage goes, "defense wins championships," and having a dependable goalkeeper is essential for any successful team.

Eva Marie Kogel said she handed in her resignation after the newspaper went to print on Friday. In his article, said Germany’s traditional parties had failed by delivering economic stagnation, social unrest and erosion of national identity. Mr Musk, who was born in South Africa and became a US citizen in 2002, said Germany had become “comfortable with mediocrity” and incited cultural tensions by opening its borders to a large number of migrants. In a series of posts on X in the run up to Christmas, Mr Musk toted his support for AfD, which he deemed the “only hope for Germany”, and questioned the party’s categorisation of far Right. The Tesla founder’s endorsement of AfD in December prompted , the German chancellor, to quip that Germany’s free speech allowed multi-billionaires to say things that were incorrect and did not contain good political advice. Writing in Die Welt, Mr Musk said: “The AfD can save Germany from becoming a shadow of its former self,” adding that the party could spur economic prosperity, cultural integrity and technological innovation. The Tesla founder said he believed he had the right to speak openly about his political beliefs because he has made significant investments in the nation’s industrial and technological industries. Tesla has built a gigafactory in Brandenburg, the first such site for the electric carmaker in Europe. In the article, Mr Musk sounded the alarm over Germany’s decision to open its borders to a large number of migrants, which he said was done with humanitarian intentions but had led to a breakdown in social cohesion. “The AfD is committed to a controlled immigration policy that prioritises integration and the preservation of German culture and security,” he wrote, adding: “This is not about xenophobia, but about ensuring that Germany does not lose its identity in the pursuit of globalisation. “A nation must preserve its core values and cultural heritage in order to remain strong and united.” The incoming head of the inaugural US (Doge) also expressed admiration for AfD’s drive to deregulate the market, reduce bureaucracy and lower taxes. He described Germany’s decision to phase out nuclear power to rely on fossil fuels and renewable energy as “costly” and “naive”, claiming the nation does not have sufficient battery storage to ensure stability of electricity supply, and endorsed AfD’s drive to encourage critical thinking in education rather than indoctrination. Mr Musk took issue with the AfD being branded as “far Right”, instead deeming the party advocates of political realism without the political correctness. Pointing to Alice Weidel, the party’s leader, who has a same-sex partner from Sri Lanka, he said: “Does that sound like Hitler to you?”, adding: “To those who condemn the AfD as extremist, I say: Don’t be fooled by the label attached to it.” The article was commissioned by Mathias Döpfner, the head of the newspaper publisher Axel Springer, and was met with outrage from the newspaper’s editorial committee, according to Der Spiegel newspaper. The article was published with a rebuttal by Jan Philipp Burgard, Die Welt’s editor-in-chief, who stated that while Mr Musk’s diagnosis of Germany’s ills may be correct, his judgment that only AfD could save Germany was “fatally wrong”. Mr Burgard called attention to AfD’s desire for rapprochement with Russia, with the party calling for a restoration of trade and lifting of sanctions on Moscow. He also warned of AfD’s intention to appease Beijing and leave the European Union, deeming the latter a “catastrophe”. “The AfD is not just Alice Weidel, but also ,” Mr Burgard wrote, before scalding the infamous leader of AfD’s regional branch in Thuringia for his repeated use of banned Nazi slogans and salutes. The editor-in-chief pointed out that a court ruling allows Höcke to be described as an extremist. The history teacher turned politician has previously dismissed Berlin’s Holocaust memorial as a “monument of shame” and has called for a “thousand year future” for Germany. While Mr Burgard conceded that “Germany is indeed struggling with out-of-control immigration”, he discredits the AfD’s remigration plans as “unrealistic”.

With so much of our lives spent in bed, we all must get a restful night’s sleep so we’re ready to start the day energized. While our bodies naturally cool down as we wind down, some sleep much colder than others. The right mattress can help cold sleepers stay warm and cozy throughout the night. Most mattresses target your sleep position and not your temperature, which makes shopping around tricky. This guide can help you understand what makes the right mattress for cold sleepers and everything you need to know to sleep well. Our top pick, the DreamCloud Premier Rest 16-inch Mattress , is designed to regulate temperature for a comfortable sleep. Cold sleepers should look to any mattress containing foam or latex, as these two materials trap heat more than other options, particularly breathable innerspring mattresses. While trapping in heat is a turnoff for some sleepers, those who are cold embrace the warmth kept within. Hybrid mattresses are increasingly popular. They feature a combination of foam or latex and innerspring layers to provide a balance of comfort and support. The foam or latex layers are typically the uppermost layers and help regulate temperature. How soft or firm the right mattress is for you is influenced mainly by your sleep position and size. Those who sleep on their stomach should avoid a soft mattress so that they don’t sink into the bed and strain their spine, but they should also avoid an extra-firm mattress that doesn’t support their hips and shoulders. Side sleepers should be cradled by a softer mattress with a bit of resistance for their shoulders and head. Back sleepers find firmer options most comfortable. Heavier individuals should avoid softer mattresses as they can sink in and not receive the proper support. Conversely, slighter persons may enjoy less firm mattresses since they can cradle them. For some people, gel foam is a much-desired feature; however, cold sleepers should avoid foam or hybrid mattresses incorporating gel foam. This is because the gel helps offset the heat trappings of foam by adding cooling technology, making the mattress a good choice for those who sleep warm, not cold. Most mattresses that include foam or latex are adept at lessening motion transfer, meaning that one person’s rustling or movement won’t disturb the other person in bed. What’s more, foam and latex options tend to be quiet. Foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses are pricier, especially those with multiple layers. Cold sleepers can expect to pay between $600 and $1,200 for a queen-size mattress. A. Investing in a mattress protector is wise, especially for a densely made mattress that traps heat. A mattress protector prevents dust, mites, and, in some cases, liquids from penetrating the mattress, which can cause an odor and lead to slow deterioration. Rotate your mattress every few months so it’s used evenly, especially if you have foam layers that may conform to your body. A. Size and thickness don’t necessarily influence a mattress’s heat retention. Mattresses for cold sleepers come in all standard sizes. That choice should be made based on your size, available space and whether you sleep with a partner. Thickness ranges from around 6 to 14 inches. ZINUS 12 Inch Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress What you need to know: This mattress offers both comfort and support at a reasonable price. What you’ll love: It includes layers of low-toxin foam that help maintain the temperature as you sleep. It’s also infused with green tea extract, which helps to fight against unwelcome odors. TAPACHULA, Mexico (AP) — Eleven clandestine graves with the bodies of 15 men were located in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, where a dispute between the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación drug cartels is taking place, local authorities said Sunday. Chiapas Gov. Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar said on his social media channels that the findings came as the result of a raid in the city of La Concordia, near Mexico 's border with Guatemala . He said four people connected to the case had been arrested with weapons and drugs. The state prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the raid took place in two different properties. The first site had three bodies in three graves and in the second, eight graves with 12 bodies. “It is worth mentioning that for these operations technological tools such as drones and geo-radars were used, in addition to aerial overflight, ground search, field forensics, back-excavation and drills,” it said. Chiapas Prosecutor General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca said last week that another clandestine grave with charred bodies was found in Emiliano Zapata, neighboring La Concordia, but did not give more details because of the poor state of the bodies for identification. The dispute over drug routes, migrant trafficking and weapons has left more than 10,000 people displaced in recent years, including Mexicans fleeing to Guatemala, according to reports from humanitarian organizations.

As fans continue to rally behind their side, Zaahier Adams cannot help but wonder if the elusive trophy awaits just around the corner. Tristan Stubbs has a breakout year in the international game. | BackpagePix AT TEST LEVEL If there is a fairytale story of the year it's the Proteas' Test side. Having started the year under the most problematic circumstances with Shukri Conrad forced to take an extremely under-strength team to New Zealand, to being top of the ICC World Test Championship log and just one victory away from qualifying for the final at Lord's next year, is utterly remarkable. Conrad was faced with the unthinkable when the New Zealand tour clashed with SA2O back home. As a result the Test side was left without not only its regulars but the vast majority of contracted players within the country. Fortunately, Conrad has always been an out-of-the-box thinker which saw him send out an SOS to former Proteas Test spinner Dane Piedt and also Western Province and Nottinghamshire's veteran seamer Dane Paterson. Titans opener Neil Brand was named captain of the side for the two-match series, and while the Proteas ultimately lost the series 2-0 – losing out on valuable WTC points – they certainly did not disgrace themselves. Since then it has only been onwards and upwards for the Proteas Test side. Conrad's charges currently enjoy a five-match winning streak that includes series victories over the West Indies (1-0 away), Bangladesh (2-0 away) and Sri Lanka (2-0 home). The Bangladesh series victory was particularly satisfying, as it was the Proteas' first Test series win on the subcontinent in a decade. Business People: Former East Metro lawmaker John Kriesel takes role at Northland Vodka

PRESIDENT Joe Biden's final freebie vacation of his term in office has sparked outrage as he prepares to leave the White House an unpopular and diminished statesman. The outgoing Commander-in-Chief, 82, arrived on Thursday in the Caribbean resort of Saint Croix - part of the U.S. Virgin Islands - for a last vacation before he prepares to leave office. Biden , First Lady Jill Biden, and daughter Ashley were filmed disembarking Air Force One for a post-Christmas sunny getaway. From the tiny airport, they were whisked away in a presidential motorcade to the beachfront villa of Bill and Connie Neville, two wealthy business managers and prominent Democratic donors. Biden previously spent New Year's Day at the couple's Caribbean home in 2023 and also hosted them at a state dinner in 2022. Wearing a black baseball cap, the outgoing president appeared stony-faced as he made his way to his waiting vehicle. READ MORE ON JOE BIDEN The Nevilles run the US Viking software company, which makes an online content platform called ENPS marketed by The Associated Press and used by various news outlets. It is the latest of Biden's stays at the home of wealthy backers, drawing accusations of ethics violations. Previously, the Bidens reportedly asked Maria Allwin, the widow of a prominent hedge fund operator, if they could use her vacation mansion in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Biden also spent four Thanksgiving-week stays at billionaire private equity titan David Rubenstein’s compound in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Most read in The US Sun This September, President Biden spoke at a lunch hosted by Rubenstein in Washington. The previous month, Biden’s family spent five days for free at the sprawling California ranch of medical technology billionaire Joe Kiani. Kiani has received substantial government contracts during the Biden administration and has been appointed by the president to an advisory board. Both moves have sparked outrage from Republicans. Biden has also been slammed for avoiding the media or scrutiny from opposition as he brings an end to his 50-year political career. “He’s been disappeared for a long time," GOP strategist Doug Heye told The Hill . "We saw him go to Africa, didn’t take any questions that anybody could see, and was largely shielded from the press." Democrats have also expressed frustration as Biden's term looks to go out with a whimper. "There’s just such a great level of sort of disappointment on the way this presidency is ending," one Democratic lobbyist said. "It’s almost like a resignation at this point." CRA International, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRAI) Short Interest UpdateIs the World Series champions’ plucking of another starting pitcher bad for baseball? Or should other organizations just try harder?

NEW YORK (AP) — Sneaking a little ahead of line to get on that plane faster? American Airlines might stop you . In an apparent effort to reduce the headaches caused by airport line cutting, American has rolled out boarding technology that alerts gate agents with an audible sound if a passenger tries to scan a ticket ahead of their assigned group. This new software won't accept a boarding pass before the group it's assigned to is called, so customers who get to the gate prematurely will be asked to go back and wait their turn. As of Wednesday, the airline announced, the technology is now being used in more than 100 U.S. airports that American flies out of. The official expansion arrives after successful tests in three of these locations — Albuquerque International Sunport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Tucson International Airport. The initial response from customers and American employees "has exceeded our expectations," Julie Rath, American’s senior vice president of airport operations, reservations and service recovery, said in a statement. She added that the airline is “thrilled" to have the technology up and running ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday . American got lots of attention when it unveiled its gate-control testing last month. Analysts say that isn't surprising. It's no secret that line cutting in airports hits a nerve. Whether intentional or not, just about every air traveler has witnessed it, noted Henry Harteveldt, an airline industry analyst with Atmosphere Research Group. It can add to frustrations in what can already be a tense environment, with particular anxiety around passengers wanting to sit together or rushing for some overhead bin space. Harteveldt doesn't see American's recent move as “shaming” customers who cut the line. “What it is intended to do is bring order out of chaos,” he said. "And I hope it will defuse any potential flare ups of anger (from) people who simply think they're entitled to board out of turn .... It’s just not fair." Harteveldt added that he thinks this change will enhance the experiences of both customers and gate agents. Others say more time will tell. Seth Miller, editor and founder of air travel experience analysis site PaxEx.aero , said he can see the benefits of more orderly and universal gate-control enforcement, particularly for airlines. But he said he isn't “100% convinced this is perfect for passengers" just yet. Families, for example, might be booked on several different reservations across more than one group, he said. Airlines typically have workarounds for that, and American noted Wednesday that customers traveling with a companion in an earlier group can simply have a gate agent “override the alert” to continue boarding. Still, Miller said, “you have to go through the extra hoops.” And a difficult customer still might choose to hold up the line and argue when they're not allowed to board, he added. Another question is whether customers who encounter a beep will walk away feeling embarrassed. But Harteveldt said he was happy to learn that American's alert is “not a bellowing sound that can be heard throughout the terminal,” or accompanied by your name read over a loudspeaker, noting that this is important to avoid feelings of shame. Expanding this technology just a week before peak Thanksgiving travel could be “both good and bad,” Harteveldt adds. On one hand, the tech could help significantly improve the boarding process during such a busy time, he said, but airport employees might also have appreciated more time to prepare. Both Miller and Harteveldt said they wouldn't be surprised if other carriers soon follow American's lead. Headaches over airport line cutting are far from new. While maybe not to the extent of American's new tech, Miller noted he's seen gate agents from other airlines ask people to leave a line and wait for their group. Harteveldt added that he's been to some airports in Asia and Europe with “sliding doors” that ensure passengers are in the right group before boarding a plane. The more than 100 airports that American is now using its gate-control technology in are all spoke, or non-hub, locations — including Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The airline says it expects to further expand to its hubs and other airports in the coming months.

WASHINGTON (AP) — For years, Pat Verhaeghe didn’t think highly of Donald Trump as a leader. Then Verhaeghe began seeing more of Trump’s campaign speeches online and his appearances at sporting events. There was even the former president’s pairing with Bryson DeChambeau as part of the pro golfer’s YouTube channel series to shoot an under-50 round of golf while engaging in chitchat with his partner. “I regret saying this, but a while ago I thought he was an idiot and that he wouldn’t be a good president,” said the 18-year-old first-time voter. “I think he’s a great guy now.” Verhaeghe isn't alone among his friends in suburban Detroit or young men across America. Although much of the electorate shifted right to varying degrees in 2024, young men were one of the groups that swung sharply toward Trump. More than half of men under 30 supported Trump, according to AP VoteCast , a survey of more than 120,000 voters, while Democrat Joe Biden had won a similar share of this group four years earlier. White men under 30 were solidly in Trump’s camp this year — about 6 in 10 voted for Trump — while young Latino men were split between the two candidates. Most Black men under 30 supported Democrat Kamala Harris, but about one-third were behind Trump. Young Latino men’s views of the Democratic Party were much more negative than in 2020, while young Black men’s views of the party didn’t really move. About 6 in 10 Latino men under 30 had a somewhat or very favorable view of the Democrats in 2020, which fell to about 4 in 10 this year. On the other hand, about two-thirds of young Black men had a favorable view of the Democrats this year, which was almost identical to how they saw the party four years ago. “Young Hispanic men, and really young men in general, they want to feel valued," said Rafael Struve, deputy communications director for Bienvenido, a conservative group that focused on reaching young Hispanic voters for Republicans this year. “They're looking for someone who fights for them, who sees their potential and not just their struggles.” Struve cited the attempted assassination of Trump during a July rally in Pennsylvania as one of the catalyzing moments for Trump’s image among many young men. Trump, Struve said, was also able to reach young men more effectively by focusing on nontraditional platforms like podcasts and digital media outlets. “Getting to hear from Trump directly, I think, really made all the difference," Struve said of the former president's appearances on digital media platforms and media catering to Latino communities, like town halls and business roundtables Trump attended in Las Vegas and Miami. Not only did Trump spend three hours on Joe Rogan's chart-topping podcast, but he took up DeChambeau's “Break 50” challenge for the golfer's more than 1.6 million YouTube subscribers. Trump already had an edge among young white men four years ago, although he widened the gap this year. About half of white men under 30 supported Trump in 2020, and slightly less than half supported Biden. Trump's gains among young Latino and Black men were bigger. His support among both groups increased by about 20 percentage points, according to AP VoteCast — and their feelings toward Trump got warmer, too. It wasn’t just Trump. The share of young men who identified as Republicans in 2024 rose as well, mostly aligning with support for Trump across all three groups. “What is most alarming to me is that the election is clear that America has shifted right by a lot,” said William He, founder of Dream For America, a liberal group that works to turn out young voters and supported Harris’ presidential bid. With his bombastic demeanor and a policy agenda centered on a more macho understanding of culture , Trump framed much of his campaign as a pitch to men who felt scorned by the country’s economy, culture and political system. Young women also slightly swung toward the former president, though not to the degree of their male counterparts. It's unclear how many men simply did not vote this year. But there's no doubt the last four years brought changes in youth culture and how political campaigns set out to reach younger voters. Democrat Kamala Harris' campaign rolled out policy agendas tailored to Black and Latino men, and the campaign enlisted a range of leaders in Black and Hispanic communities to make the case for the vice president. Her campaign began with a flurry of enthusiasm from many young voters, epitomized in memes and the campaign's embrace of pop culture trends like the pop star Charli XCX's “brat” aesthetic . Democrats hoped to channel that energy into their youth voter mobilization efforts. “I think most young voters just didn’t hear the message,” said Santiago Mayer, executive director of Voters of Tomorrow, a liberal group that engages younger voters. Mayer said the Harris campaign’s pitch to the country was “largely convoluted” and centered on economic messaging that he said wasn’t easily conveyed to younger voters who were not already coming to political media. “And I think that the policies themselves were also very narrow and targeted when what we really needed was a simple, bold economic vision,” said Mayer. Trump also embraced pop culture by appearing at UFC fights, football games and appearing alongside comedians, music stars and social media influencers. His strategists believed that the former president’s ability to grab attention and make his remarks go viral did more for the campaign than paid advertisements or traditional media appearances. Trump's campaign also heavily cultivated networks of online conservative platforms and personalities supportive of him while also engaging a broader universe of podcasts, streaming sites, digital media channels and meme pages open to hearing him. “The right has been wildly successful in infiltrating youth political culture online and on campus in the last couple of years, thus radicalizing young people towards extremism,” said He, who cited conservative activist groups like Turning Point USA as having an outsize impact in online discourse. “And Democrats have been running campaigns in a very old fashioned way. The battleground these days is cultural and increasingly on the internet.” Republicans may lose their broad support if they don't deliver on improving Americans' lives, Struve cautioned. Young men, especially, may drift from the party in a post-Trump era if the party loses the president-elect's authenticity and bravado. Bienvenido, for one group, will double down in the coming years to solidify and accelerate the voting pattern shifts seen this year, Struve said. “We don’t want this to be a one and done thing,” he said. Associated Press writer Joey Cappelletti in Lansing, Michigan, and AP polling editor Amelia Thomson-DeVeaux contributed to this report.

Wall Street's main indexes have closed largely unchanged, amid light trading the day after the Christmas break, as rising US Treasury yields weighed on some of the dominant technology megacaps. or signup to continue reading On a day of few catalysts, investors responded to yields on US government bonds inching higher, including the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note hitting its highest since early May at 4.64 per cent earlier in the session. A strong auction of seven-year notes early on Thursday afternoon though helped yields come off slightly, with the 10-year note at 4.58 per cent in late-afternoon trade. Higher yields are traditionally seen as negative for growth stocks, as it raises the cost of their borrowing to fund expansion. With markets increasingly dominated by the megacap technology stocks known as the Magnificent Seven, crimping their performance - especially in lieu of other market catalysts - will put downward pressure on benchmark indexes. According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 lost 2.66 points, or 0.04 per cent, to end at 6,037.09 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 10.74 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 20,020.38. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 28.52 points, or 0.06 per cent, to 43,325.55. Among those megacap stocks, Tesla. Amazon.com and Meta Platforms slipped. Apple increased, continuing to edge closer to becoming the first company in the world to hit a market value of $US4 ($A6.4) trillion. The megacap tech stocks came off somewhat in the summer, as investors sought to rotate some capital into other sectors offering more value. Since the US elections in November though, they have resumed their drive upwards and have outperformed the equal-weighted version of the S&P 500, said Adam Turnquist, chief technical strategist for LPL Financial. "As a technician, what you want to see is breakouts in absolute terms and relative terms and the Mag 7 is checking the boxes there, so very constructive leadership going into the year-end," he said. The three main indexes have hit multiple record highs this year on hopes of a lower interest rate environment and the prospects of artificial intelligence boosting corporate profits. However, US stocks have hit a speed bump in the final month of the year following an election-led rally in November as investors assess the Federal Reserve's projection of fewer interest rate cuts in 2025. Looking ahead, LPL Financial's Turnquist said the last few weeks have seen significant reliance on the Magnificent Seven stocks driving markets higher, and we may be starting to see the cracks in this momentum. Therefore, to see further benchmark index increases, we will need to see input from other sectors of the economy. Markets in Europe, London and parts of Asia were closed on Thursday. One data release on Thursday showed the number of Americans filing new applications for jobless benefits dipped to the lowest in a month last week, consistent with a cooling but still healthy US labour market. Markets are in a seasonally strong period - called the "Santa Claus rally" - a pattern attributed to low liquidity, tax-loss harvesting and investing of year-end bonuses. The S&P 500 has gained an average of 1.3 per cent in the last five trading days of December and the first two days of January since 1969, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac. Cryptocurrency-related stocks were down after bitcoin declined. MicroStrategy, MARA Holdings and Coinbase Global all fell. Among the 11 S&P sectors which traded lower were consumer discretionary and the energy index, which tracked marginal weakness in US crude prices. DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. FDA approves cancer drug developed by B.C.'s ZymeworksWINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — It wasn’t how Duke drew up the final play, but it worked out perfect for the Blue Devils in Saturday’s 23-17 victory over Wake Forest. Maalik Murphy threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Moore as time expired, allowing Duke to end the regular season with three consecutive victories. Murphy said he realized he took too long to make a decision after the last snap. “I knew at that point I had to make a play,” he said. “The damage was already done, time was ticking.” With the score tied at 17, the Blue Devils (9-3, 5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) moved 76 yards in 1:22 after forcing a Wake Forest punt. It appeared that Duke might run out of time in the slow-developing play, but Moore improvised and broke free along the right side, caught the ball at the 10-yard line and spun into the end zone to complete a comeback from 14 points down in the second half. “The play that Maalik and Jordan put together was magical,” Duke coach Manny Diaz said. “Nobody thought a 5-yard route would turn into a (long) touchdown.” So instead of a long field-goal attempt, Duke had something better. “I just decided to take it down the field,” Moore said. “I think that’s a testament to our chemistry. ... Maalik had the confidence in himself to make that kind of play.” It resulted in Duke’s sixth victory by seven points or less. “It’s like a perfect exclamation point to our season,” Diaz said. “An unbelievable way to finish our season.” Murphy racked up with 235 yards on 26-for-34 passing. Moore, who was down with an injury after a reception earlier in the second half, made five catches for 98 yards. Hank Bachmeier threw for 207 yards and a touchdown as Wake Forest (4-8, 2-6) ended its second straight four-win season with a four-game losing streak. “A heartbreaking loss,” Demon Deacons coach Dave Clawson said. “It’s a tough way to lose a game and a tough way to end the season.” Tate Carey’s 8-yard run, Matthew Dennis’ 37-yard field goal and Horatio Fields’ 9-yard reception across 11 minutes of game time gave Wake Forest a 17-3 lead with nine minutes left in the third quarter. Duke took advantage of a short field following a punt, moving 42 yards in four plays to score on Star Thomas’ 3-yard run. The Blue Devils recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and converted on Murphy’s 2-yard run with 12:57 left to pull even. “What has been proven is that we’re mentally tough,” Diaz said. “We’re not going to do everything perfect.” Taylor Morin became Wake Forest’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,974. He picked up 47 yards on eight catches on Saturday. Morin, in his fifth season, passed former NFL player Ricky Proehl, who had 2,929 yards in the late 1980s. Duke: The Blue Devils have secured at least a nine-win season for the second time in three seasons, this one coming in Diaz’s first season. They racked up a 4-0 record against in-state opponents, including comebacks to top North Carolina and Wake Forest. “Every quest that we have for championships starts in our own state,” Diaz said. Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons punted on their final three possessions of the season. They finished with a 1-6 record in home games. “It’s been a tough year, a long year, and I’m proud of our team and how hard they fought,” Clawson said. WASHINGTON — FBI Director Christopher Wray told the bureau workforce Wednesday he plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden’s term in January, an announcement that came a week and a half after President-elect Donald Trump said he would nominate loyalist Kash Patel for the job. Wray said at a town hall meeting that he would step down “after weeks of careful thought,” three years short of the completion of a 10-year term marked by high-profile and politically charged investigations, including that those led to two separate indictments of Trump last year. Wray’s intended resignation is not unexpected considering that Trump settled on Patel to be director and repeatedly aired his ire at Wray. By stepping down rather than waiting to be fired, Wray is trying to avert a collision with the new Trump administration that he said would have further entangled the FBI “deeper into the fray.” Wray was put in the job by Trump and began the 10-year term — a length meant to insulate the agency from the political influence of changing administrations — in 2017, after Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey. HOUSTON (AP) — Will Levis threw for 278 yards and his 70-yard touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo put Tennessee on top in the fourth quarter and the Titans held on for a 32-27 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. Okonkwo grabbed a short pass and rumbled for the touchdown to put the Titans (3-8) up 30-27 with 9 1/2 minutes remaining. Safety Eric Murray missed a tackle that would have stopped him near midfield. The Texans (7-5) had a chance to tie it with less than two minutes remaining, but Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 28-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide left. He fell to the ground after the miss before getting up and slamming his helmet on the field. Titans coach Brian Callahan held both hands in the air and smiled after watching the miss that allowed his team to win on a day it had three turnovers. The Texans forced a three-and-out, but couldn’t move the ball after that and Harold Landry sacked C.J. Stroud in the end zone for a safety to make it 32-27 and allow Tennessee to snap a two-game skid. Stroud threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions as the AFC South-leading Texans lost for the third time in four games. Jimmie Ward had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter and the Texans tied a franchise record with eight sacks. But the offense sputtered for most of the game as Joe Mixon was held to 22 yards on 14 carries. Tennessee extended the lead to 23-17 on a 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk with nine minutes left in the third. Stroud threw his second interception with about 90 seconds left in the third quarter but Ward’s touchdown came three plays later to put the Texans on top 24-23. The Titans fumbled a punt early in the fourth quarter and Houston recovered it. A 54-yard field goal by Fairbairn extended the lead to 27-23 with about 10 minutes to go. Dameon Pierce returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to get the Texans in the red zone. Houston cashed in on the next play when Stroud found rookie Cade Stover on a 19-yard pass for his first touchdown reception. The Titans trailed by four after a field goal by Folk when Nick Westbrook-Ikhine got in front of the defense and was wide open for a 38-yard TD catch that made it 10-7 late in the first quarter. Tennessee extended the lead to 17-7 when Tony Pollard ran 10 yards for a touchdown with about 11 minutes left in the second. Pollard finished with 119 yards and a touchdown. Nico Collins scored on a 5-yard reception with about six minutes left in the second. Levis fumbled on the Houston 32 with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first half and Houston recovered the ball. Stroud connected with Collins on a 56-yard pass on the next play, but the Texans couldn’t move the ball and settled for a 28-yard field goal to tie it at 17-17. Houston forced a punt after that, but rookie Jarvis Brownlee Jr. got his first career interception two plays later to give Tennessee the ball back. Folk’s 56-yard field goal, which tied his career long, put the Titans up 20-17 at halftime. Week 14 Game Balls: Top performers from the OHSAA football regional finalsAP News Summary at 5:10 p.m. EST

The hunt for UnitedHealthcare CEO's elusive killer yields new evidence, but few answersIn June, Eagle River Water and Sanitation District staff learned of a problem : The sewer interceptor pipe running through EagleVail had an irregular flow pattern. While there were only minor impacts to service at the time — one customer’s wastewater was not draining properly — an investigation of the pipe revealed a greater issue. Tree roots in several places infiltrated the vitrified clay pipe that made up the sewer interceptor. An interceptor, also called a trunk line, is a larger type of pipe that absorbs the flow from smaller pipes as it moves down the system. This particular trunk line is essential because it carries wastewater between Vail and Avon. The pipe was partially filled with roots in some places, leaving significantly less space for wastewater to flow. While the issue was non-emergent — many days, wastewater only fills a third of the pipe — it remained top of mind for district staff. The monthlong repair, which cleared out the roots and installed a cured-in-place pipe to keep them from returning, wrapped up last month. From Oct. 22 through Nov. 20, district staff supervised a specialized contractor-led repair using a cured-in-place pipe liner, essentially a custom-made sleeve that hardens in place once it is inserted into the pipe, creating one long pipe surface and reinforcing the existing pipe’s walls. Brad Zachman, the district’s director of operations, Niko Nemcanin, the district’s field operations manager, and Micah Schuette, the project manager, presented the construction progress to the district board on Dec. 5. When Eagle County’s upper valley was starting to fill out in the 1960s and 1970s, the district installed a sewer system to serve its new residents. That system was primarily made out of clay pipe. As clay pipe ages, water sometimes escapes from the joints where individual pipes are connected, and tree roots will trace their way to the source. Over time, roots can create significant impediments within the pipe as they grow, fed by the nutrients flowing through the pipe. “When you have the trees planted on top of our pipes and our easements, it can lead to this type of intrusion,” Schuette said. It is in the district’s rules and regulations that trees — along with any other landscaping or structures — should not be planted or built within district easements. The sewer interceptor in EagleVail runs from West Vail to Avon, carrying wastewater between the district’s Vail Wastewater Treatment Facility to the Avon Wastewater Treatment Facility. The pipe operates all day, every day, and is the main transporter of that area’s wastewater. The four sections that needed to be repaired totaled 1,260 linear feet long, making it the biggest pipe-lining project the district had ever taken on, Nemcanin said. The process of fixing the pipe required multiple steps. First, the pipe had to be bypassed, moving its contents into an alternative pipe without disrupting service. The sewer interceptor then had to be cleaned of tree roots and rocks with specialized tools. Finally, the liner was installed. Residents of EagleVail and Avon may be familiar with the bypass, a 3,000-foot-long pipe that ran aboveground on the south shoulder of U.S. Highway 6 from east of the Post Boulevard roundabout to Stonebridge Drive. The liner, which is 9 millimeters thick, was custom-made to fit the pipe. The pipe was measured several times before the liner was made. “One of the risks of the CIPP is if you haven’t thoroughly characterized the inside of the pipe and they show up with this impregnated folded liner and it’s the wrong size, or you run into a situation where the pipe is damaged ... you eat the cost of that liner because it can’t be used” in another pipe, Zachman said. The liner arrived looking like a heavy, deflated bag, Schuette said. The liner was inserted into the pipe and was then molded to the pipe with heat. During transit, the liner was kept cold with ice. “As soon as it heats up, then it starts to cure,” Schuette said. To mold the pipe in place, steam was passed through the pipe. A small wire running through the bottom of the pipe measured the temperature, as the liner had to reach 150 degrees for around an hour to properly harden in place. While there are no joints in the cured-in-place pipe, an “important disadvantage” of the liner is that when sections of the liner need to be cut out where the sewer interceptor connects to other pipes or manholes, those can become “a pathway for roots,” Zachman said. To combat this, special inserts will be added to block out the roots in those places. In the end, the pilot project cost $516,000. Schuette called this “a pretty good price” compared to an open trench repair, which would have required excavating and potentially replacing the whole pipe and the roadway above it, a much longer, more disruptive and costlier project. While the EagleVail repair was a big undertaking, the four sections made up only a quarter mile of the roughly 18 miles of clay pipe in the district’s system. Any section of pipe that is made of clay will need to be investigated for similar root infiltration. Though not all 18 miles of pipe are interceptor, most pipe installed between Vail and Avon is likely clay. If the pipe were to be installed today, district staff would use a new PVC technology that is flexible, will not crack lengthwise, and, most importantly, has gaskets that prevent trees from gaining access to the interior, Nemcanin said. The district is already beginning talks with contractors about the next phase of the project. In addition to the repairs in EagleVail, the contractors investigated three segments of pipe upstream and downstream of the repaired sections and did not find major intrusions, Nemcanin said. Notably, these un-infiltrated sections did not have large trees on or around them. The section of pipe from Avon to Edwards is made of PVC pipe and thus less susceptible to the root infiltration issue, so the investigation for other damaged sections of pipe will head east from EagleVail. The presence of trees on the aerial map of the area will help identify priority areas for investigation. As other infiltrated sections of pipe are identified, the results of the contractor’s inspection will determine whether a full replacement is needed, or a cured-in-place liner will suffice.

WINCHESTER — The high school selection committee is inching closer to making a recommendation, but the question of where 8th-graders at Winchester School will graduate from in 2029 remains unanswered. At its meeting Thursday night, the Winchester School Board approved sending a mailer to residents and scheduled two more public forums for 2025 about the high school selection process. Winchester closed its high school in 2005 and has paid tuition for the town’s students to attend Keene High School since then. But the Keene School District announced in March that it would not renew its tuition agreement with Winchester after it expires in June 2027. As it stands, Winchester students will be able to attend Keene High until the tuition agreement ends. But the current agreement leaves uncertain whether those students will be able to graduate from Keene High or if they will have to finish their education elsewhere. Winchester School Board Chair Karen Jerome previously said legal counsel for the Keene and Winchester districts have been in communication since April to add an addendum to the tuition agreement, with the most recent revision being sent to Winchester on Oct. 29. The school board reviewed the addendum at its Nov. 7 meeting, Winchester Superintendent David Ryan said, and sent it back to the Keene Board of Education for a review. “We believe that it’s at a point that we’ve all walked away from the table with a compromise and that it’s in the best interest of all of our students,” he said. “We expect that by December 11, those contents should be public information.” Keene Board of Education Chair George Downing confirmed Friday morning that there is an item from the Winchester School District slated for discussion during its Tuesday meeting, but due to its contents it will be during its non-public session. Meanwhile, Winchester's high school selection committee has been researching alternatives to Keene High since this summer. The options include Hinsdale High, Monadnock Regional in Swanzey or Pioneer Valley Regional in Northfield, Mass. Lindseigh Picard, chair of the high school selection committee, gave a presentation to the Winchester School Board Thursday night about the process to date. Picard said the committee is on track to provide a recommendation at the Jan. 6 school board meeting. “We’ve found some common threads in the surveys from the high school open house night,” she said, referencing the event in November. “ People really want a school with access to trade and career technical education, they want advanced academics, small class sizes and sports.” Picard said additional discussion with the committee that has not been included in the data presented was the importance of developing a relationship with the school that is chosen for the next tuition agreement. “We hope our community is engaged at a decision-making level with whichever school district we opt to be part of,” she said. “We’d like Winchester to have a seat at the table.” Voters will ultimately get to weigh in at the annual district meeting in March about which school the district will pursue a tuition agreement negotiation with. Picard also noted feedback she’s received from the community about the uncertainty of whether Winchester students who enroll at Keene High before the tuition agreement ends will have to change schools at the beginning of the 2028-29 academic year. “People are really concerned about what is going on with our current 8th-graders,” she said. “A lot of questions have come about at the committee level that we don’t have any information about. We know you might not either, but that is definitely sparking a lot of concern.” Picard said some discussion has been ongoing in community Facebook groups in other towns about the tuition agreement, and asked for permission from the board to create a mailer to disseminate more information outside of social media. “We have people in our greater community who may not be participating in the Facebook pages,” Picard said. The board unanimously approved the mailer, and Picard said the committee will send a preview of it to the board by Tuesday. The mailer could be sent out as early as the week of Dec. 16. The board also approved scheduling two more public forums, one on Jan. 23 and the other on March 6, about the anchor school process during its meeting Thursday evening. “We’re going to need other meetings where the stakeholders can come talk to us, and share concerns and questions [people] may still have,” Jerome said. The Winchester School Board will meet again on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Winchester School library.

Baltimore prosecutors are still mulling what to do with the case of Adnan Syed, whose decades-old convictions were reinstated earlier this year. At a status conference in Syed’s case Friday, sprosecutor Clara Salzberg, chief of the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office’s Post Conviction Litigation Unit, said her team needed more time to decide what to do with a request to vacate Syed’s convictions filed by the previous administration in the state’s attorney’s office. “We are asking for an additional 90 days ... to allow us to take the time that we need to conduct the review of what was filed and to determine what are the appropriate next steps for our office to take,” Salzberg said. Syed’s lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Erica Suter, did not object to the prosecutor’s request. Also the director of the Innocence Project Clinic at the University of Baltimore School of Law, Suter didn’t say anything else during the brief court hearing. David Sanford, an attorney for Young Lee, the brother of the woman Syed is accused of killing in 1999, Hae Min Lee, said he would object to any further delays in the case. “The office claims it needs an additional three months to review documents it has had for over two years,” Sanford said, adding, “At this point, this is frankly absurd.” That prosecutors are still mulling how to proceed in this case adds intrigue to a legal saga made famous by the hit podcast “Serial,” which chronicled Syed’s prosecutions. The Supreme Court of Maryland reinstated Syed’s convictions in August, capping off an appeals process dating to September 2022and placing Syed’s fate in the hands of a new state’s attorney. Though the state’s attorney’s office successfully moved to vacate Syed’s convictions in September 2022, the office doesn’t have to take the same position now that the Supreme Court has ordered a redo of the hearing that set Syed free. On the campaign trail, Bates said Syed’s convictions should be undone. When his office received the case following the state Supreme Court’s ruling, he said they needed to evaluate the case. “Ninety days is what we’re confident today will at least give us the time that we need to have more clarity about what our next steps will be,” Salzberg told Baltimore Circuit Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer, who is now presiding over the case. Schiffer ordered prosecutors to file anything new in the case by Feb. 28. Syed’s legal saga traces to 2000 when a Baltimore jury found Syed guilty of murder, kidnapping, robbery and related charges in the death of Lee, his high school sweetheart. Prosecutors postulated at the time that Syed couldn’t handle it when Lee broke up with him, so he killed her. Lee, 18, was strangled to death and buried in a clandestine grave in Leakin Park. Syed’s convictions withstood multiple appeals, but he always maintained he was innocent. Years turned to decades behind bars. His break came in 2021 when Suter approached city prosecutors about modifying his sentence under a new law allowing people convicted of crimes before they turned 18 to petition a court to change their penalty. The subsequent review spawned a full-throttled reinvestigation of the case, which, prosecutors said, revealed alternative suspects in Lee’s killing not before disclosed to Syed. The revelation, prosecutors said, led them to doubt the “integrity” of Syed’s decades-old convictions. They moved to vacate the guilty findings. On a Friday afternoon in September 2022, Baltimore Circuit Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a hearing for the following Monday. Prosecutors then informed Young Lee, saying he could watch it by Zoom, but a lawyer for Young Lee insisted his client, who lived in California, wanted to attend in person and wasn’t given enough time to travel. Phinn proceeded with the hearing, ordering Syed freed after 23 years of incarceration. Young Lee raised questions about his role in the hearing, appealing before prosecutors dismissed Syed’s charges in October 2022. He argued that the short notice violated his right as a crime victim and the intermediate Appellate Court of Maryland agreed in March 2023, ordering Syed’s convictions reinstated for a do-over of the hearing to vacate them. Syed swiftly appealed to the state’s highest court, arguing that Young Lee got adequate notice and that the prosecutor’s decision to dismiss his charges nullified the appeal. Young Lee followed up with his own appeal , with his lawyers arguing the appellate court’s ruling didn’t go far enough for crime victims. The state Supreme Court’s decision was split. The three dissenting judges argued, in part, that it was up to the legislature, not the judiciary, to decide whether to clarify a crime victim’s role in such a proceeding. Have a news tip? NoneSpecial counsel Jack Smith left the door open for President-elect Donald Trump 's federal criminal cases to be revived while dropping them ahead of Trump's return to the White House. On Monday, Smith filed a motion to drop four felony counts against Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He also dropped an appeal to Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon 's dismissal of the president-elect's classified documents case. Smith wrote that he "stands fully behind" the election subversion charges against Trump despite moving to dismiss the case "without prejudice," a legal term that means charges could at least theoretically be filed again after Trump's term ends in 2029. The documents case was previously dismissed without prejudice. "The Constitution requires that this case be dismissed before the defendant is inaugurated," wrote Smith. "And although the Constitution requires dismissal in this context, consistent with the temporary nature of the immunity afforded a sitting President, it does not require dismissal with prejudice." Newsweek reached out to Trump's office via email on Monday for comment. Legal analyst Barbara McQuade, a former federal prosecutor , noted on Monday in a post on X, formerly Twitter , that the case could return once Trump's second and final term expires in 2029. However, "there may be no appetite" at that point. Harry Litman, also a legal analyst and a former federal prosecutor, wrote on X that Smith's move is a "really interesting gambit" because the incoming Trump-controlled Department of Justice (DOJ) may not be able to dismiss the case with prejudice since after it was already dismissed. In the documents case, Smith dropped his appeal of the case against the president-elect on Monday but left the appeal intact for charges against his co-defendants, Trump valet Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira. However, charges against the co-defendants likely will not be pursued when Trump returns to office, as his nominee for U.S. attorney general, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, will control the DOJ. Smith is also expected to resign as special counsel before Trump takes office. Trump did not mention the possibility of the cases being revived while celebrating Smith's moves on Monday in a pair of posts to Truth Social. The president-elect asserted that he had triumphed over Democrats' "political hijacking" of the DOJ . "These cases, like all of the other cases I have been forced to go through, are empty and lawless, and should never have been brought," Trump wrote. "Over $100 Million Dollars of Taxpayer Dollars has been wasted in the Democrat Party's fight against their Political Opponent, ME." "It was a political hijacking, and a low point in the History of our Country that such a thing could have happened, and yet, I persevered, against all odds, and WON," he added. Activating Your Credit Card? Don’t Skip the Mobile Wallet StepA Florida woman was arrested Tuesday after her insurance company told police she made a threat using words associated with the murder of a healthcare executive last week. Briana Boston reportedly had claims denied by BlueCross BlueShield recently, and called them up -- and the company recorded it. At the end of the call, Boston allegedly said ... “Delay, Deny, Depose. You people are next,” according to Tampa's WFLA-TV . "Deny, Depose, Defend" are the words etched onto shell casings found at the scene of the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week ... 26-year-old Luigi Mangione has been arrested this week in that case. Though one of the words in Briana's call was different, it seems the insurance company -- and police -- took the statement very seriously. The 42-year-old woman received an immediate visit from Lakeland police officers at her home -- where she admitted she had uttered the phrase, saying “She used those words because it’s what is in the news right now,” according to police. She also said, "The healthcare companies played games and deserved karma from the world because they are evil." Boston, a mother of 3 children, does not own a gun. She's been charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism, and she was booked in Polk County Jail, where she was held on $100,000 bond.Trump offers a public show of support for Pete Hegseth, his embattled nominee to lead the Pentagon

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The guy on the Philly sports talk radio station had something to say, and he started to vent about the perceived strained relationship between star quarterback Jalen Hurts and standout wide receiver A.J. Brown. Why weren’t these two Pro Bowl Eagles on the same page? Why had their personal and professional relationship changed even with Philadelphia enjoying tremendous success? It was football gossip usually ripe for a hot-take host or fed-up fan to stir up on the air — only in this instance, the temperature check came from inside the locker room. Normally respected team leader Brandon Graham, who is sidelined with a triceps injury, noted in a radio appearance that “ things have changed ” between Hurts and Brown in the wake of a stale passing game in last week’s win over Carolina. An apologetic Graham walked back his comments. Hurts and Brown both insisted their relationship was cool in front of media hordes more appropriate for the Super Bowl. As for the rest of the Eagles, they were ready to squash the so-called controversy. “We are moving on,” offensive lineman and Christmas song crooner Jordan Mailata said. “It is the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. Not the A.J. Brown and Jalen Show. It is the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s it.” Oh yeah, the Steelers! Lost in the brouhaha ignited in a Philly sports bar is the fact that sitting — and winning — on the western side of Pennsylvania are the Steelers (10-3). Unlike most matchups in series history, this one Sunday at the Linc comes with the tantalizing appeal of a potential Super Bowl preview. The Steelers have won seven of eight, and the Eagles (11-2) have won nine straight and could clinch the NFC East with a win and a Washington loss or tie. It's the first time the teams — among the original eight NFL teams — will play each other when they both have a double-digit win total. Both teams are in strong position for a playoff run — the Eagles led by Saquon Barkley and his pursuit of Eric Dickerson's NFL season rushing record; Russell Wilson and the soft-schedule Steelers atop the AFC North in large part thanks to six wins against teams that currently have losing records. “I do like playing really good people, I think there's growth in it,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “You've got to get the job done. But man, I think there's significant growth in pitting your collective talents and skills versus big-time opponents and they're certainly that.” Will the drama out of Philly this week affect the Eagles? They certainly don't think so and neither do the oddsmakers — the Eagles are 5 1/2-point favorites, per BetMGM. “What I’ve noticed about this football team is they’re so locked in and determined to get better each day,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “We don’t really want anyone else talking to us about anything other than the Pittsburgh Steelers.” Good luck with that, Coach. Maybe playing the Steelers on Sunday at home can snap the Eagles out of their offensive malaise. Hurts threw three TD passes to Brown in a 35-13 win in 2022. Barkley watch Barkley leads the NFL in rushing with 1,623 yards, 216 yards ahead of Baltimore’s Derrick Henry. He is averaging 124.8 yards per game. At that pace, and with one more game to play than Dickerson had, he would become the top single-season rusher in NFL history. He needs 483 yards over the final four games to top Dickerson’s 40-year-old record. Barkley is on pace for 2,122 yards, which would put him just 17 yards beyond Dickerson’s 2,105 in 1984. Barkley doesn’t need much of a reminder from his 2020 performance when, while playing for the New York Giants, he ran into a Pittsburgh defense that seemed reminiscent of its famed Steel Curtain. The Steelers held Barkley to 6 yards on 15 carries. Bye, George The Steelers will have to find a way forward against the NFL’s toughest defense without wide receiver George Pickens, who will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury. Pittsburgh survived last week against Cleveland, with Mike Williams and Scotty Miller — afterthoughts of late — coming off the bench to make an impact. While Tomlin believes “the strength of the pack is the pack,” the reality is the Steelers don’t have anyone who can stretch the field like Pickens, who leads the team in receptions (55) and yards (850) by a wide margin. It’s a challenge, but considering the way Wilson has spread the ball around — eight players caught passes against the Browns — he won’t lack for options. “Everybody in the receiver room has a different skill set, different strengths,” Calvin Austin III said. “The coaching staff knows that and they know how to put us in position to be able to show that.” Playoff preview The cross-state trip to Philadelphia, where the Steelers haven’t won in nearly 60 years, is the start of an 11-day stretch in which Pittsburgh faces three teams likely bound for the playoffs. While Tomlin is leaning into the “nameless, gray faces” mantra he uses for every opponent, his players know facing the Eagles, Ravens and Chiefs in such a short period is a litmus test for what’s to come in January. “That’s why I’m in the league, period,” linebacker Patrick Queen said. “When you sign up to play football, you want to play at the highest level. ... I love to play the game the right way. I think these next few games is going to show that and it starts with the Eagles.” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A U.S. senator has called for mysterious drones spotted flying at night over sensitive areas in New Jersey and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region to be “shot down, if necessary,” even as it remains unclear who owns the unmanned aircraft. “We should be doing some very urgent intelligence analysis and take them out of the skies, especially if they’re flying over airports or military bases,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said Thursday, as concerns about the drones spread across Capitol Hill. People in the New York region are also concerned that the drones may be sharing airspace with commercial airlines, he said, demanding more transparency from the Biden administration. The White House said Thursday that a review of the reported sightings shows that many of them are actually manned aircraft being flown lawfully. White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said there were no reported sightings in any restricted airspace. He said the U.S. Coast Guard has not uncovered any foreign involvement from coastal vessels. “We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus,” Kirby said, echoing statements from the Pentagon and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh has said they are not U.S. military drones. In a joint statement issued Thursday afternoon, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said they and their federal partners, in close coordination with the New Jersey State Police, “continue to deploy personnel and technology to investigate this situation and confirm whether the reported drone flights are actually drones or are instead manned aircraft or otherwise inaccurate sightings.” The agencies said they have not corroborated any of the reported sightings with electronic detection, and that reviews of available images appear to show many of the reported drones are actually manned aircraft. “There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space,” according to the statement. The drones appear to avoid detection by traditional methods such as helicopter and radio, according to a state lawmaker briefed Wednesday by the Department of Homeland Security. The number of sightings has increased in recent days, though officials say many of the objects seen may have been planes rather than drones. It’s also possible that a single drone has been reported more than once. The worry stems partly from the flying objects initially being spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. In a post on the social media platform X, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia described the drones as up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) in diameter and sometimes traveling with their lights switched off. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use but are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Most, but not all, of the drones spotted in New Jersey appeared to be larger than those typically used by hobbyists. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey said he was frustrated by the lack of transparency, saying it could help spread fear and misinformation. “We should know what’s going on over our skies,” he said Thursday. John Duesler, president of the Pennsylvania Drone Association, said witnesses may be confused about what they are seeing, especially in the dark, and noted it’s hard to know the size of the drones or how close they might be. “There are certainly big drones, such as agricultural drones, but typically they are not the type you see flying around in urban or suburban spaces,” Duesler said Thursday. Duesler said the drones — and those flying them — likely cannot evade detection. “They will leave a radio frequency footprint, they all leave a signature," he said. "We will find out what kind of drones they were, who was flying them and where they were flying them.” Fantasia, a Morris County Republican, was among several lawmakers who met with state police and Homeland Security officials to discuss the sightings from the New York City area across New Jersey and westward into parts of Pennsylvania, including over Philadelphia. It is unknown at this time whether the sightings are related. Duesler said the public wants to know what's going on. “I hope (the government agencies) will come out with more information about this to ease our fears. But this could just be the acts of rogue drone operators, it’s not an ‘invasion’ as some reports have called it,” Duesler said. “I am concerned about this it but not alarmed by it.” Associated Press reporters Mark Scolforo in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and reporter Darlene Superville and videojournalists Serkan Gurbuz and Nathan Ellgren in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report.People are tired of political news as ratings show they are tuning out, poll finds

Throughout history, black athletes have been at the forefront of not just sports but also social activism, challenging injustices and advocating for equality. Using their influence, they know they can strive for change in their environment. Yet, some athletes take their activism to extraordinary levels, transforming their platforms into catalysts for change by showing actions and not just saying them. Taking actions In 2016, as racial tensions in the United States reached a boiling point, former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick stepped into the spotlight for his bold decision to challenge systemic injustice. After the murders of four black people that summer, Kaepernick sought to make a statement his own way. During a preseason game, while the national anthem played, he chose to remain seated. This is one of the numerous bold stances that caught the attention of many, including Kobe Bryant , a figure synonymous with leadership and influence in the NBA. Kobe, no stranger to the intersection of sports and activism, admired Kaepernick's bravery. "I think what Colin Kaepernick stood for is the epitome of doing what he believes is right," says Bryant. "Now things have been taken out of context and misconstrued; they try to bend it this way that way and miss the point of what it is—the message that she was getting across, and I think having the bravery to be able to do that is something that we should all stand for." Related: Ice Cube shares his struggles watching Larry Bird dominate: "I just couldn't understand how he was as good as he was" Creating a movement Kaep's activism did not stop at sitting during the anthem. The former star quarterback also adjusted his protest by kneeling, a gesture intended to maintain his stance against police brutality against the black race. Bryant, who spent his career navigating the challenges of being a black athlete in a predominantly white country, understood the weight of Colin's decision. "It's very hard as a black athlete; it's just to sit here and say, 'You know what? We're comfortable. We made it. We have it made. It's okay. We don't have to jump into this thing. It's too much controversy. We don't need it.' Is that the right thing to do? No, it's not," "Bean" said. Kaepernick's actions became more evident during the 2020 murder of George Floyd, and other black athletes joined the movement. Players wore T-shirts, took a knee during the anthem, and used their platforms to advocate for justice. This collective action underscored the enduring influence of Kaep's original protest. The Dutch have never reached the competition's final since first participating 104 years ago but knocked out Rafael Nadal's Spain in the last eight on Tuesday. Jan-Lennard Struff sought three-time winners Germany's hopes alive in the second singles match against Tallon Griekspoor. Van de Zandschulp claimed his scrappy victory with his 10th match point in two hours 44 minutes. "It could have been easier but I did it the hard way," said the Dutchman. "At some point, I didn't know what to do any more on the match points." Neither player blinked in a first set with few thrills, until the Dutchman, ranked 80th, nosed ahead for a 5-4 lead which he served out, clinching when Altmaier went wide. Van de Zandschulp, the final player to beat retiring superstar Nadal when the Netherlands knocked out Spain, broke in the fifth game of the second set and consolidated for a 4-2 lead, taking full control of the match. The Dutchman forced four break points in the next game, but the world number 88 managed to escape with three aces to avoid a double break. Moving into a higher gear the German was able to get back on serve at 4-4, converting his third break point at the end of the match's longest rally when Van de Zandschulp failed at the net. The Dutch player brought up five match points in the tie-break but could not hold his nerve and Altmaier took his fourth set point with a smash to force a third set. Van de Zandschulp broke in the second game, but Altmaier immediately responded. The Dutchman produced another break of serve to open up a 5-3 lead and, after wasting four more match points, wrapped up the win with his 10th as Altmaier could not return a powerful serve. "I had the toughest match of my life on Tuesday (against Nadal), so everything that comes next is a little bit easier," added Van de Zandschulp.Haliburton County unveils 'an exciting addition to our community' installed in area parks

Most world countries remain Russia’s military allies and partners, Russian President Vladimir Putin said addressing the defense ministry board meeting in Moscow on December 16. "[W]e need to continue to further expand military and military-technical cooperation with allies and partners who are ready and willing to work with us, which includes most countries around the world." That is false. Moscow’s formal alliances are limited to five ex-USSR states-members of Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization, or CSTO, that include Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Beyond CSTO, Moscow is engaged in transactional military partnerships with China, Iran, India, and North Korea. By comparison, NATO has 32 members. Additionally, Russia is dealing with a broad spectrum of international sanctions intended to weaken its military industrial capabilities and aimed at forcing the Kremlin to halt the war in Ukraine. Declining arms exports, international isolation, and the constraints of ongoing wars in Ukraine and Syria further undermine Putin’s claims of extensive global influence. Instead of representing a majority, Russia’s military relationships reflect a concentrated and declining sphere of influence, shaped by pragmatic and often transactional ties. Russia's strategic partnerships are important in their own right, but they represent only a small portion of the global community. They include China, India, Iran, North Korea, and Syria [until the December 8 overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime]. Russia and China have fostered a close strategic relationship, particularly in defense and technology. However, this partnership does not constitute a formal military alliance. Both nations have cooperated on military exercises and arms deals but maintain independent geopolitical goals. Historically a significant buyer of Russian arms, India’s reliance on Russia has decreased in recent years as it diversifies its defense procurement to include the United States, France, and Israel. While India remains a key partner, its broader geopolitical stance remains non-aligned. Under Putin, Russia has strengthened military ties with Iran, particularly in regard to drones and missile systems. This relationship has grown amid shared opposition to Western policies but lacks the scope of a formalized alliance. Since September 2023, North Korea has supplied Russia with up to 5 million artillery shells, exceeding Russia’s annual production. Russia also has deployed North Korean KN-23/24 missiles, though with high failure rates. In June, they signed a strategic partnership, and in October, 10,000 North Korean troops were sent to Russia to train and fight against Ukraine. Russia supported Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria since 2011, providing political backing and military aid. From September 2015 to December 2024, Russia’s direct military involvement bolstered Assad’s position. Following Assad’s overthrow in December, however, this alliance dissolved. Estimates of Russia's financial support for the Assad regime vary from more than $20 billion to $27.5 billion over nine years. On the South American and African continents, Russia’s partnerships are limited to a few nations, such as Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua. These relationships are exceptions rather than the norm in the regions largely influenced by Western powers. Russia has leveraged arms sales and private military contractors such as the Wagner Group to maintain influence in parts of Africa. These engagements are primarily transactional, though, and they lack the depth of formal alliances. In the Asia-Pacific region, apart from India and China, Russia’s military partnerships are minimal. Countries like Japan, South Korea, and Australia remain aligned with the United States and its allies. Russia’s arms exports dropped by 53% between 2014–18 and 2019–23, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In 2019, Russia exported arms to 31 countries, but by 2023, this number dwindled to just 12. In 2019–23, 68% of the total Russian arms exports went to Asia and Oceania. India and China dominated as recipients, accounting for 34% and 21%, respectively. This trend demonstrates that Russia’s influence is concentrated in a few key markets and highlights its reduced global reach in defense trade. Furthermore, competition from other major arms exporters, such as the United States and France, combined with the impact of sanctions and logistical challenges, has significantly curtailed Russia’s ability to expand its arms trade. The current geopolitical landscape further disproves Putin’s claim. The United Nations comprises 193 member states. Most of these nations are not aligned with Russia militarily or engaged in terms of military-technical cooperation. In contrast, many are either neutral or part of Western alliances, such as NATO and the European Union, which directly oppose Russian policies.A watch belonging to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was discovered in Providence by authorities investigating a string of home burglaries at professional athletes’ homes, sources told ABC News . Kelce’s Leawood, Kansas mansion was burglarized last month while the NFL star was at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Saints on Oct. 7. According to police documents by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, $20,000 in cash was taken from Kelce’s home and his back door was damaged. Police did not share that a watch was taken from Kelce’s home when the news was first reported. Kelce’s home invasion took place a day after a separate burglary at Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ Belton, Mo. estate , which occurred just after midnight on Oct. 6. Mahomes’ pregnant wife, Brittany Mahomes and their daughter Sterling, 3, and son Bronze, 1, were not home at the time of the break-in , according to ABC News. Police believe a South American crime ring is behind both burglaries, Fox 4 in Kansas City reported on Tuesday. The next day, the NFL sent a memo to teams alerting them of organized criminals increasingly targeting the homes of professional athletes while they are away. It included recommendations for security measures, including telling athletes not to post on social media in real time. The burglars are skilled in conducting research for homes they’re targeting — and sometimes posing as delivery men, maintenance workers or joggers to learn about residences, neighborhoods and security systems, according to an NFL memo obtained by ABC News. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the FBI is investigating the crime wave as international organized crime. The burglars are targeting items such as cash, jewelry, watches and handbags, and focusing on master bedrooms and closets, Pelissero reported, adding that they will research social media accounts and players’ families posts to make sure no one is home. Kelce has yet to address the burglary at his Kansas home, while Mahomes said the incident was “frustrating” and “disappointing.” The Chiefs (9-1) face the Panthers (3-7) in North Carolina on Sunday.

Don't miss out on the action - get ready to speed into the New Year with Sonic the Hedgehog 3!Ken Griffin is arguably one of the most successful investors of all time. He made a name for himself when he shorted stocks just ahead of the 1987 market crash that came to be known as "Black Monday." His profits last year topped $7 billion as his returns of roughly 15% outpaced many of his peers. That result pales in comparison to his performance in 2022, though, when Citadel became "the most successful hedge fund ever," according to CNN, generating profits of $16 billion, the "largest annual windfall on record." Griffin has been outspoken about the potential for generative AI . "This branch of AI will be game-changing for the economy," he said, "because it will take an enormous amount of work that's done today by people and do it in a distinctly different, highly automated, highly efficient way." These weren't just empty words. At the end of last year, Griffin's top five individual stock holdings were all AI companies. It's therefore worth noting that Griffin has sold more than half his stake in AI stock Broadcom ( AVGO 0.18% ) , and is pouring funds into another AI stock-split stock instead. Broadcom has been on fire Broadcom is one of the gatekeepers in the AI ecosystem . The company provides a wide range of products used in the cable, mobile, broadband, and data center industries. It reports that "99% of all internet traffic crosses through some type of Broadcom technology," making it a key provider of the tech necessary to facilitate AI. In its fiscal third quarter, which ended Aug. 4, Broadcom's revenue grew 47% year over year to $13.1 billion, while its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) increased 18% to $1.24. Management expects its growth streak to continue, and boosted its full-year revenue forecast to $51.5 billion, which would equate to growth of 44%. Those results help illustrate why Broadcom stock is up 64% over the past year and 188% over the past three years (at the time of this writing). The stock has risen so much, in fact, that management instituted a 10-for-1 stock split that was completed on July 15. Wall Street is nearly unanimous in its opinion of Broadcom. Of the 42 analysts who cover the stock, 37 rate it a buy or strong buy, and none recommend selling. That backdrop makes it all the more notable that, during the third quarter, Griffin sold more than 3.1 million shares of Broadcom -- roughly 64% of Citadel's stake in it. He still holds 1.72 million shares worth about $296 million. At the same time, he was buying another AI stock -- Nvidia ( NVDA -3.22% ) . Want chips with that? It's clear Griffin thought Nvidia represented a compelling opportunity last quarter. The billionaire investor increased Citadel's stake by more than 7 million shares, an increase of 454%. That brought his total stake to 712 million shares worth $865 million. Among the thousands of stocks in Citadel's portfolio, Nvidia is the second-largest individual stock holding. Nvidia has been the poster child for the AI revolution, as its graphics processing units (GPUs) are the most-used hardware for providing the computational horsepower needed to train and run AI models. This has caused a run on the company's state-of-the-art processors, which have become the gold standard for data centers, where most AI processing takes place. The unprecedented demand has had an unmistakable impact on Nvidia's financial results. During its fiscal 2025 third quarter, which ended Oct. 27, Nvidia's revenue soared 94% year over year to $35 billion, while its adjusted EPS surged 103% to $0.81. Management left no doubt about what drove the results. "The age of AI is in full steam, propelling a global shift to Nvidia computing," said CEO Jensen Huang. Those results help explain why Nvidia stock is up 196% over the past year and 342% over the past three years (as of this writing). The company's unbridled success led management to initiate a 10-for-1 stock split, which was completed on June 10. Broadcom isn't the only AI stock-split stock that Wall Street is nearly unanimous about. Of the 64 analysts who have offered an opinion on Nvidia, 60 rate the stock a buy or strong buy, and none recommend selling. We don't know exactly when during the third quarter that Griffin added to his stake in Nvidia, but a quick look at the stock chart might provide some insight. In mid-June, rumors about a potential delay in the release of the company's highly anticipated Blackwell processors sent the stock tumbling, and by early August, Nvidia had shed 27% of its value. Griffin likely saw a bargain he couldn't resist. It turns out that Griffin probably didn't know something that Wall Street doesn't. He simply saw a compelling opportunity, and he took it. Should retail investors follow his lead now? Nvidia stock currently trades for 69 times earnings, but that P/E metric doesn't take into account the company's above-average growth. Wall Street is predicting Nvidia will generate EPS of $4.36 in its fiscal 2026, which will begin in late January. That gives it a valuation of about 34 times forward earnings. While that's certainly still a premium price, Nvidia is guiding for year-over-year revenue growth of 70% in the current quarter, with a commensurate uptick in profits, and Wall Street is predicting sales growth of 49% next year. Given the company's critical place in the AI revolution and its robust prospects, I am completely convinced that Nvidia stock is still a buy .Furthermore, the combat system in Marvel's Avengers has been lauded for its fluidity and depth. Players have enjoyed the satisfying punch of Iron Man's repulsor blasts, the brute force of Hulk's smashing attacks, and the acrobatic prowess of Black Widow's martial arts skills. The game offers a good balance of melee and ranged combat, allowing players to tailor their playstyle to suit their preferences.Joining Mbappe in the forward line is another rising star, Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund, whose clinical finishing and physical presence have seen him become a top contender for the title of the best striker in the world. Haaland's remarkable goal-scoring record and ability to perform under pressure have rightfully earned him a place in the FIFPro Best XI.

Cairns Don't miss out on the headlines from Cairns. Followed categories will be added to My News. A Far North local government has extended its consultation period for a suite of new laws feared by residents as an “overreach,” causing a social media storm of concerns. But Mareeba Shire Council has described the online commentary as “misinformation” while extending the community submission period for changes it has proposed to its local laws. The initial November 15 deadline has been pushed to 5pm, Wednesday December 4. In a statement, the council said the amendments were “minor adjustments to the existing local laws and in many cases, actually relax current regulations”. The changes included extending the time limit for temporary accommodation such as caravans to be lived on a property from four to six weeks. It also calls on private events held in public spaces to gain council approval, while creating provisions for officers to take regulated enforcement action when detecting illegal camping. Mareeba Shire Council’s proposed amendments to its local laws would give officers regulated enforcement authority in matters such as illegal camping. The proposed changes would also affect animal management by increasing the number of dogs which can be kept on a 450sq m property from one, to two, as well as a number of measures towards enclosures for animals. The council stated most of the laws had long already been in place and it was only providing definitions, clarifications, correcting grammatical errors and making some minor changes; however residents took to social media to describe the changes as a “dictatorial corporation at work,” as “draconian” and calling on the “sheeples to wake up”. Mareeba Shire Council’s proposed amendments to its local laws included changes to animal management. Stock photo. But Mayor Angela Toppin hit back, stating the social commentary was misleading and incorrect. “Recently, council has received submissions and calls from concerned residents about the proposed amendments, with a lot of the concern stemming from information that has been posted on social media that was misleading and incorrect,” she said. “We have published a summary of the proposed amendments, and we hope that this helps to alleviate anxiety in the community. Mareeba Shire Council Mayor Angela Toppin says a summary of the proposed amendments published by the local government should help alleviate concerns. “If residents would like anymore clarification on the amendments, please do not hesitate to contact council.” Written submissions may be provided to the council in writing during the consultation period and may be delivered to via email at info@msc.qld.gov.au, by post or by hand delivery the local government’s chambers at 65 Rankin St, Mareeba. arun.singhmann@news.com.au More Coverage ‘They are not eating dogs’: Grisly claim of backyard butchering debunked Peter Carruthers Sunshine and smiles: Family fun at Mareeba Rodeo Bronwyn Farr Originally published as Mareeba Shire Council local law changes consultation period extended after social media storm Join the conversation Add your comment to this story To join the conversation, please log in. Australia found themselves at a precarious 104 for five, still trailing by 429 runs. Starting the day with a challenging 12-3, the home team's struggle continued as Usman Khawaja departed early, falling to paceman Mohammed Siraj's delivery, caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Harshit Rana's intense bowling unsettled Steve Smith and had Travis Head on the defense, with the pair managing 62 runs for Australia's best partnership in the match. Smith was caught behind for 17, adding to India's joyous moments in the wake of a disappointing 3-0 defeat to New Zealand earlier. Despite adversity, Head aggressively knocked numerous boundaries to reach 63 not out, marking his 17th half-century. Together with Mitchell Marsh, unbeaten on five, Australia faces a daunting challenge as India sets a massive fourth-innings target. (With inputs from agencies.)

This Government favours the rehabilitation of ex-offenders. Except when it comes to Cabinet ministers. Louise Haigh was forced to resign after it emerged she had pleaded guilty to a criminal offence in 2014 for incorrectly telling the police a work mobile phone had been stolen. She was given a discharge, the lightest of all reprimands, which is now spent. The offence took place before she was elected an MP. If this is the bar for a ministerial resignation then it is so low that Keir Starmer may as well appoint a cabinet of Munchkins. Surely this was a storm which could have been ridden out if, and it is a big if, the PM had been so minded. He could have noted the historic nature of the offence and drawn a comparison with Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak receiving police fines when in office. Starmer’s reluctance to defend Haigh may be because there is more to this than has been divulged. Perhaps there is another skeleton in the cupboard. But her summary dismissal suggests she was guilty of another crime – the heresy of representing the soft left around the Cabinet table. Haigh did not just earn her Red Lou nickname for her eye-catching hair dye. She was one of the few Cabinet ministers to raise objections ahead of the Budget about the proposed spending cuts. The former transport secretary was also given a dressing down by No 10 after she called for a boycott of P&O Ferries just as the government was trying to secure a £1billion investment from the firm’s parent company. Many Labour MPs will have clocked that Starmer’s letter to Haigh was terse to the point of rudeness. This may not matter now but it could cause the Labour leader problems further down the line given that Haigh is well-liked by parliamentary party colleagues. She was also good at her job. The reason she became a Cabinet minister at 37 was because she had mastered her brief and knew what was needed to repair Britain’s creaking transport network. In her brief spell in charge she oversaw the renationalisation of the railways, ended the strikes and secured new employment protections. Starmer has shown he is ruthless but also doesn’t like to be challenged. Unlike Tony Blair, who had dissident voices around his Cabinet table such as Clare Short. Few left-wingers are in the PM’s top team. Haigh’s exit may be a precursor for a purge of other soft-left figures. Appointing Heidi Alexander as her replacement points to only one direction of travel. Cabinet ministers will have noted the PM’s reluctance to back a colleague in difficulty. He may not need Cabinet loyalty now but he is almost sure to in the future.Portable healthcare is transforming how we approach wellness, making medical care more accessible and efficient than ever. With technology advancing at lightning speed, portable devices and innovations are reshaping the industry, empowering individuals to take control of their health on the go. From wearable monitors to mobile diagnostic tools, these trends are not just convenient—they’re game-changers. As we step into 2024, the focus on personalized and real-time healthcare solutions continues to grow. According to the World Health Organization , portable healthcare technologies are critical in bridging gaps in access and improving outcomes globally. It’s clear that these innovations aren’t just a luxury—they’re becoming a necessity for modern living. So, what does the future hold for portable healthcare? Let’s dive into the trends set to redefine how we stay healthy in the year ahead. Portable healthcare technology is revolutionizing the way individuals access and manage medical services. With expanding innovations, 2024 is set to witness a continued surge in adoption across various healthcare solutions. Wearable Devices Gaining Momentum Wearable devices are transforming personal health tracking by offering real-time insights into vital parameters. US stocks fall but Alphabet jumps on Google discoveryANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's defense of the national championship has fallen woefully short. The Wolverines started the season ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25 , making them the third college football team since 1991 to be ranked worse than seventh in the preseason poll after winning a national title. Michigan (6-5, 4-4 Big Ten) failed to meet those modest expectations, barely becoming eligible to play in a bowl and putting the program in danger of losing six or seven games for the first time since the Brady Hoke era ended a decade ago. The Wolverines potentially can ease some of the pain with a win against rival and second-ranked Ohio State (10-1, 7-1, No. 2 CFP) on Saturday in the Horseshoe, but that would be a stunning upset. Ohio State is a 21 1/2-point favorite, according to the BetMGM Sportsbook, and that marks just the third time this century that there has been a spread of at least 20 1/2 points in what is known as “The Game.” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore doesn't sound like someone who is motivating players with an underdog mentality. “I don’t think none of that matters in this game,” Moore said Monday. “It doesn’t matter the records. It doesn’t matter anything. The spread, that doesn’t matter.” How did Michigan end up with a relative mess of a season on the field, coming off its first national title since 1997? Winning it all with a coach and star player contemplating being in the NFL for the 2024 season seemed to have unintended consequences for the current squad. The Wolverines closed the College Football Playoff with a win over Washington on Jan. 8; several days later quarterback J.J. McCarthy announced he was skipping his senior season; and it took more than another week for Jim Harbaugh to bolt to coach the Los Angeles Chargers. In the meantime, most quality quarterbacks wanting to transfer had already enrolled at other schools and Moore was left with lackluster options. Davis Warren beat out Alex Orji to be the team's quarterback for the opener and later lost the job to Orji only to get it back again. No matter who was under center, however, would've likely struggled this year behind an offensive line that sent six players to the NFL. The Wolverines lost one of their top players on defense, safety Rod Moore, to a season-ending injury last spring and another one, preseason All-America cornerback Will Johnson, hasn't played in more than a month because of an injury. The Buckeyes are not planning to show any mercy after losing three straight in the series. “We’re going to attack them," Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer said. “We know they’re going to come in here swinging, too, and they’ve still got a good team even though the record doesn’t indicate it. This game, it never matters what the records are." While a win would not suddenly make the Wolverines' season a success, it could help Moore build some momentum a week after top-rated freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan. “You come to Michigan to beat Ohio,” said defensive back Quinten Johnson, intentionally leaving the word State out when referring to the rival. "That's one of the pillars of the Michigan football program. “It doesn’t necessarily change the fact of where we are in the season, but it definitely is one of the defining moments of your career here at Michigan.” AP Sports Writer Mitch Stacy in Columbus, Ohio, contributed to this report. No. 9 Kentucky, focused on getting better, welcomes Jackson St.While the rest of the Notre Dame community figures out whether it's worth paying four figures for a ticket to the College Football Playoff first-round home game against Indiana, the men's basketball team continues to figure out how to survive without Markus Burton. Notre Dame (5-5) hosts its next-to-last nonconference game Wednesday night against Dartmouth (4-4), which plays its sixth contest of a seven-game road trip. The Fighting Irish took a promising step -- and snapped a five-game losing streak -- on Saturday by edging Syracuse 69-64 in their ACC opener. "We needed to be in a close game and we needed to win a close game so our guys can build some belief back," head coach Micah Shrewsberry said. "We can't take any steps back on Wednesday." Without Burton -- the stat sheet-stuffing sophomore point guard who injured the medial collateral ligament in his knee Nov. 26 against Rutgers -- the Irish are struggling to find someone to run the offense, as evidenced by their seven assists versus 15 turnovers against Syracuse. At the same time, players are filling the scoring void. Braeden Shrewsberry poured in a career-high-tying 25 points versus the Orange while hitting 6 of 11 3-point attempts. Tae Davis averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 shots per game when Burton was healthy, but he has upped his mean production to 16.6 points and 12.2 shots in the past five games. Micah Shrewsberry, though, prefers to measure progress on a possession-by-possession basis. "Just the toughness," he said. "There have been times when we haven't gotten the key stop. We haven't gotten the bucket when we quite need it. It gets deflating sometimes." Dartmouth knows that feeling. On Sunday, the Big Green took a one-point lead with 4:03 left in overtime at UIC -- and then failed to score on their final six possessions to suffer a 69-68 loss. The Big Green, who haven't posted a winning season since 1998-99, believe whole-heartedly in launching 3-pointers as they take 48 percent of their shots from behind the arc. Senior Cade Haskins (13.6 ppg) has hit a team-high 28 of 68 3-pointers this season, though fellow senior Ryan Cornish stacks up as the team's top scorer (14.3 ppg), passer (3.0 assists per game) and defender (2.3 steals per game). In its only previous game against a power-conference opponent, Dartmouth upset Boston College 88-83 on Nov. 29. --Field Level MediaA WARM breeze drifts through the open balcony doors just as I’m lulled to sleep by the sound of waves splashing lazily against the shore. It’s November, I’m steeling myself for the festive season’s craziness, and I can’t think of a better way to relax before it all than this. A long weekend in Lanzarote was just the trick, where the sun shone in a clear blue sky and the balmy temperatures warmed my winter bones. Our getaway was to the wonderfully located Barcelo Teguise Beach, right on the seafront in Costa Teguise. This smaller resort on the island’s sunny east coast is known for its lovely golden sand beach and compact, walkable centre. And we loved the fact our adult-only hotel was right in the heart of the action. The hotel’s Champs sports bar sits right on the promenade too, so you can enjoy all the benefits of the hotel’s all-inclusive package while still being in the midst of the town and beachfront. This 4H resort has a lovely boutique feel to it and welcomes a mix of nationalities — the majority British — with a relaxed, chilled atmosphere. There are two pools, a lovely courtyard main pool lined with palm trees with plenty of sun loungers and cabana beds as well as a rather swish infinity number on a terrace overlooking the seafront. Most read in Beach holidays There was of course some of the inevitable lounger-hogging for the sunniest spots but it was encouraging to see staff clear away towels if beds remained unoccupied for long periods. The vibe was calm with activities such as aqua aerobics and board games occasionally across the day from the hotel’s enthusiastic staff. By night, guests gathered after dinner in the swish B-Lounge where there was live music and excellent cocktails . I was particularly impressed that the drinks were all premium brands, served with a flourish by the waiters at your table directly from the spirit bottle. The hotel offers B&B and half-board options as well as all-inclusive deals and the food was of good quality with plenty of choice. The main buffet restaurant, open in winter for breakfast and dinner, featured a different themed cuisine each night, as well as plentiful fresh salads and live cooking stations serving up everything from freshly grilled seafood to steaks. At lunch, those on all-inclusive could choose from the comfort pub classics at Champs or light local cuisine at the Breeze Gastro Pool Bar. I loved the Canarian cold tomato soup with slices of boiled egg and quality Iberico ham. Rooms — recently refurbished — were the perfect place to relax, too. Our junior suite came with a separate living room and two balconies — one with its own hot tub, the other with loungers. With plenty of storage space, USB sockets and rainfall shower with quality full-size toiletries, it really ticked all the boxes. The black and white loo rolls were a quirky touch — reflecting the island’s natural volcanic geography. Many of the hotel’s deluxe double rooms also feature a tub on the balcony. Unique natural beauty The resort’s classic Lanzarote architecture of brilliant white walls and vibrant green woodwork are of course part of the huge legacy of the Spanish artist, architect and activist Cesar Manrique. His passion for preserving the island’s unique natural beauty saw him lead the way in fighting overdevelopment when tourism boomed in the 1980s. His influence helped establish strict building regulations that remain in place to this day, that buildings must be low-rise and feature traditional colours with doors and windows in blue or green. And the great man played a significant role in the development of Costa Teguise itself. We wandered around the Pueblo Marinero, a complex of white-washed buildings with green wooden shutters and balconies that is home to a host of shops, houses and restaurants . Las Cucharas beach was developed in a way to respect the natural landscape, and even humble roundabouts in the town feature sculptures and other artworks. But that’s not to say you’re in a Disneyesque fantasy: there are still oodles of places to eat and drink with the inevitable Irish bars and tapas joints offering happy hour £2 pints and cocktails from £4.50. By Keith Laing | Bloomberg California Governor Gavin Newsom is promising to step in with a state electric-car tax credit if US President-elect Donald Trump repeals a federal subsidy after he takes office next year. Newsom, a prominent Democrat and frequent critic of Republican politics, said in a statement Monday that he will propose rebooting a program California phased out in 2023 to provide EV buyers relief in lieu of a $7,500 tax credit targeted by Trump. Trump has long criticized President Joe Biden administration’s efforts to subsidize electric vehicles in a bid to boost adoption of cleaner cars. His transition team is now looking to slash fuel-efficiency requirements for new cars and light trucks as part of plans to unwind Biden policies the president-elect has blasted as an “EV mandate,” Bloomberg News reported last week. California clashed with Trump frequently on auto emission regulations during the incoming president’s first term, and the state’s leaders have made clear they are now girding for another fight. Newsom already has sought to shield the state’s policies on issues including reproductive rights, climate and immigration from potential threats under a Trump administration. California, as well as states including Oregon and Colorado, currently are exempt from rules that preempt them from enacting their own emissions standards for new vehicles. More than a dozen states representing more than a third of the US auto market now have formally opted to follow California’s rules. Trump in his first term targeted California’s right to set tougher gas mileage rules than the federal government. He is expected to make another attempt to roll back the California carve out under the 1970 Clean Air Act after taking office in January. Tesla said last week it’s reached a “conditional” settlement in its 2020 lawsuit accusing Irvine-based Rivian Automotive of poaching employees to steal electric-vehicle trade secrets. Tesla didn’t disclose specifics about the agreement in a court filing, but told a California state judge that it expects to seek dismissal of the case by Dec. 24 upon satisfactory completion of the terms. Rivian declined to comment. A lawyer for Tesla didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The dispute kicked off more than four years ago when Elon Musk’s electric-vehicle maker accused Rivian of an “alarming pattern” of poaching its employees and stealing trade secrets. Some workers were “caught red-handed” misappropriating core technology for its next-generation batteries, Tesla later said. Rivian has denied wrongdoing and criticized the lawsuit as an effort to suppress competition in the EV market. Rivian and a group of its employees who defected from Tesla lost bids to get the lawsuit thrown out and a trial was set for March. —Malathi Nayak at Bloomberg contributed to this report.Things fall apart, and for UTM Party, the center seems to be losing its grip. One of the party’s co-founders, Patricia Kaliati, has made a shocking declaration – she will not campaign for the party in next year’s polls. Kaliati, the former UTM Secretary-General, made the remarks in a leaked audio clip circulating on social media. The audio reveals Kaliati’s apparent plans to dump the party after her humiliating defeat in the party’s presidential elections, where she garnered a mere 20 votes against her opponent’s 600. In the same audio, Kaliati also blamed the late Saulos Chilima for her loss in the UTM party presidential elections. “How could Saulos allow me to lose the elections?” she lamented. Kaliati’s outburst has sparked controversy, with many expressing surprise at her decision to blame the deceased Chilima for her defeat. Kaliati’s comments have raised eyebrows, especially considering her previous stance as UTM Party Secretary General. In the past, she has spoken optimistically about the party’s prospects, even predicting that UTM would rake in more votes during the 2025 elections. In the same audio, Kaliati also hinted at dumping the UTM party, expressing her bitterness over the outcome of the party’s convention She is heard exploring alternative options, including joining other parties like MCP or DPP. This development comes barely weeks after Kaliati and other presidential aspirants signed agreements to support the party despite the outcome of the elections. The sudden U-turn has raised questions about Kaliati’s commitment to the party and its values.

It’s been awhile since Niagara Wheatfield went into the season not knowing who was going to score late in games — they’ve graduated a 1,000-point scorer three years in a row. But, things are different now. After losing nine seniors at the end of the 2023-24 season, many of whom played a part in winning Class A1 in 2022, it became clear that there was some rebuilding needed at Niagara Wheatfield if they want to be crowned champions anytime soon. The loss of Luke Walck, a two-time All-Niagara Frontier League player who was one vote away from player of the year last season, is sure to not only hurt, but change, the Falcon’s offense. Now 1-6 on a three-game skid, Niagara Wheatfield is off to its worst start since the 2019-20 season, when the team went 2-5 and finished the season 9-12 overall. There's only one starter with varsity experience, Cameron Gruarin, who made it into the lineup after an injury halfway through his junior season. Starting besides him is a seventh-grader and three juniors. “We played so well the other night against North Tonawanda and then all of a sudden we just kinda had this moment and it was like, ‘Holy cow. What are we doing out there?,’” Niagara Wheatfield head coach Erik O’Bryan. “And it's just a lack of experience.” The team is very inexperienced, but that doesn’t mean good things can’t happen, it just might take a little longer because they have growing pains to work through. There’s no big man like the 6-foot-5 Walck to rely on this year so the team has more shooters so they’re looking at a quick concept on the court. The Falcons weren’t able to all get together over the summer either, as so many of the players are multi-sport athletes. While it helps to have a team of athletes, it is no doubt a struggle when the group lacks individual experience, and experience playing as a team. While Gruarin’s experience makes him the unquestioned leader, he’s still learning with the rest of the group. With the Falcons all being thrown in the fire, they have the opportunity to rise or burn, but either way it is something they will do together. The lack of experience allows for the opportunity to be coached and learn things the way the coaches intend, hopefully minimizing bad habits and building team chemistry along the way. Niagara Wheatfield has a history of turning it around in recent years. O’Bryan’s teams have gone 20-16 before Jan. 1 dating back to 2019-20 — excluding the COVID-19 spring season in 2021 — and have rebounded to go a combined 46-17 in the New Year. “Obviously losing is definitely not the goal, but at the end of the day as long as we’re getting better, and each game has been much better,” Gruarin said. “Right now losing is fine, as long as we keep growing, I'm sure we’ll start winning by the middle of the season.” The energy presented at practices and games each day also helps NW stay focused and positive, two things that can help them improve their slow start to the season. The team is seeing improvement the more they play together and as team chemistry gets stronger. There are shots they trust each other to make now that they might’ve been hesitant with at the start of the year, and the team has already improved since their 37-77 loss to McKinley High School to open up the season. “As the season goes on our games keep getting closer and closer and I can see the fight and energy in our team as we keep going along and keep building this team,” Gruarin said.casino near me

Surveillance tech advances by Biden could aid in Trump’s promised crackdown on immigrationThe Irving Law Firm Expands Legal Services In Arlington, VA

By SARAH PARVINI, GARANCE BURKE and JESSE BEDAYN, Associated Press President-elect Donald Trump will return to power next year with a raft of technological tools at his disposal that would help deliver his campaign promise of cracking down on immigration — among them, surveillance and artificial intelligence technology that the Biden administration already uses to help make crucial decisions in tracking, detaining and ultimately deporting immigrants lacking permanent legal status. While immigration officials have used the tech for years, an October letter from the Department of Homeland Security obtained exclusively by The Associated Press details how those tools — some of them powered by AI — help make life-altering decisions for immigrants, including whether they should be detained or surveilled. One algorithm, for example, ranks immigrants with a “Hurricane Score,” ranging from 1-5, to assess whether someone will “abscond” from the agency’s supervision. Related Articles The letter, sent by DHS Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer Eric Hysen to the immigrant rights group Just Futures Law, revealed that the score calculates the potential risk that an immigrant — with a pending case — will fail to check in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. The algorithm relies on several factors, he said, including an immigrant’s number of violations and length of time in the program, and whether the person has a travel document. Hysen wrote that ICE officers consider the score, among other information, when making decisions about an immigrant’s case. “The Hurricane Score does not make decisions on detention, deportation, or surveillance; instead, it is used to inform human decision-making,” Hysen wrote. Also included in the government’s tool kit is a mobile app called SmartLINK that uses facial matching and can track an immigrant’s specific location. Nearly 200,000 people without legal status who are in removal proceedings are enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program, under which certain immigrants can live in the U.S. while their immigration cases are pending. In exchange, SmartLINK and GPS trackers used by ICE rigorously surveil them and their movements. The phone application draws on facial matching technology and geolocation data, which has been used before to find and arrest those using the app. Just Futures Law wrote to Hysen earlier this year, questioning the fairness of using an algorithm to assess whether someone is a flight risk and raising concerns over how much data SmartLINK collects. Such AI systems, which score or screen people, are used widely but remain largely unregulated even though some have been found to discriminate on race, gender or other protected traits. DHS said in an email that it is committed to ensuring that its use of AI is transparent and safeguards privacy and civil rights while avoiding biases. The agency said it is working to implement the Biden administration’s requirements on using AI , but Hysen said in his letter that security officials may waive those requirements for certain uses. Trump has publicly vowed to repeal Biden’s AI policy when he returns to the White House in January. “DHS uses AI to assist our personnel in their work, but DHS does not use the outputs of AI systems as the sole basis for any law enforcement action or denial of benefits,” a spokesperson for DHS told the AP. Trump has not revealed how he plans to carry out his promised deportation of an estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally. Although he has proposed invoking wartime powers, as well as military involvement, the plan would face major logistical challenges — such as where to keep those who have been detained and how to find people spread across the country — that AI-powered surveillance tools could potentially address. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump, did not answer questions about how they plan to use DHS’ tech, but said in a statement that “President Trump will marshal every federal and state power necessary to institute the largest deportation operation” in American history. Over 100 civil society groups sent a letter on Friday urging the Office of Management and Budget to require DHS to comply with the Biden administration’s guidelines. OMB did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Just Futures Law’s executive director, Paromita Shah, said if immigrants are scored as flight risks, they are more likely to remain in detention, “limiting their ability to prepare a defense in their case in immigration court, which is already difficult enough as it is.” SmartLINK, part of the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program, is run by BI Inc., a subsidiary of the private prison company The GEO Group. The GEO Group also contracts with ICE to run detention centers. ICE is tight-lipped about how it uses SmartLINK’s location feature to find and arrest immigrants. Still, public records show that during Trump’s first term in 2018, Manassas, Virginia-based employees of BI Inc. relayed immigrants’ GPS locations to federal authorities, who then arrested over 40 people. In a report last year to address privacy issues and concerns, DHS said that the mobile app includes security features that “prohibit access to information on the participant’s mobile device, with the exception of location data points when the app is open.” But the report notes that there remains a risk that data collected from people “may be misused for unauthorized persistent monitoring.” Such information could also be stored in other ICE and DHS databases and used for other DHS mission purposes, the report said. On investor calls earlier this month, private prison companies were clear-eyed about the opportunities ahead. The GEO Group’s executive chairman George Christopher Zoley said that he expects the incoming Trump administration to “take a much more aggressive approach regarding border security as well as interior enforcement and to request additional funding from Congress to achieve these goals.” “In GEO’s ISAP program, we can scale up from the present 182,500 participants to several hundreds of thousands, or even millions of participants,” Zoley said. That same day, the head of another private prison company told investors he would be watching closely to see how the new administration may change immigrant monitoring programs. “It’s an opportunity for multiple vendors to engage ICE about the program going forward and think about creative and innovative solutions to not only get better outcomes, but also scale up the program as necessary,” Damon Hininger, CEO of the private prison company CoreCivic Inc. said on an earnings call. GEO did not respond to requests for comment. In a statement, CoreCivic said that it has played “a valued but limited role in America’s immigration system” for both Democrats and Republicans for over 40 years. Why Biotechnology Company Carmell Shares Are Seeing Blue Skies Tuesday?
